Dallas man facing drug charges after traffic stop

Butler Township supervisors agree to construct new municipal building

<p>DORRANCE TWP. &#8212; The township&#8217;s financial situation benefited recently from an infusion of money from private and state sources that, in the first case, helped fund a highway repair project and, in the second, may enable the purchase of a 2016 dump truck.</p><p>It was stated at Monday&#8217;s meeting that Williams Pipeline Company, Inc., of Tulsa, Oklahoma, remitted $71,714 to the township to offset the cost of resurfacing St. Mary&#8217;s Road which was allegedly damaged by heavy equipment of the Sheehan Pipe Line Construction Company. Sheehan, which has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, performed natural gas pipeline work for Williams at the site earlier this year.</p><p>The line, a major loop in a northeast interstate system, crossed St. Mary&#8217;s Road near Prospect Road. A contract for road resurfacing was awarded to Pennsy Supply, Inc. at a bid price of $112,915.</p><p>The money from Williams, along with $100,000 in community development funds, was ulitized to pay for the project which was completed by the end of July.</p><p>It was stated at the meeting the township has been awarded $120,000 in state gaming funds, which the supervisors said will be designated for the purchase of a freightliner dump truck. Bids on the truck will be advertised after the September meeting.</p><p>It was also announced by solicitor Don Karpowich that the proposed residential construction plan of TFP Limited at the Blue Ridge Trail Golf Course is back in vogue. Karpowich said he has been informed that TFP has completed its filing of plans and paperwork with Luzerne County officials and the matter of reviewing TFP&#8217;s real estate development proposal will have to be considered by the supervisors.</p><p>Karpowich suggested a public hearing on TFP&#8217;s submission could be scheduled in late October.</p><p>Through its chief executive officer Robert Tamburro, TFP outlined in February that 193 housing units are being considered for construction on land adjacent to the golf course.</p><p>In other business, the supervisors:</p><p>&#8226; Announced a test of emergency sirens related to the Suquehanna Steam Electric Station has been scheduled for 11 a.m. Aug. 18 by Talen Energy, Inc.</p><p>&#8226; Stated they are seeking bids for road work on Ridge Road and Small Mountain Road.</p><p>&#8226; Issued a request for applicants to fill two positions in the recycling department.</p><style>
