<p>DURYEA &#8212; Members of the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force on Thursday apprehended Scott Bolton, the man who attempted to escape from the Luzerne County prison with convicted murderer Hugo Selenski in 2003 and is now facing assault charges.</p><p>Bolton was captured in a condemned home at 309 McAlpine St., where Duryea police say he pistol-whipped Earl Bailey and Stacy Stackhouse &#8212; Bolton&#8217;s ex-girlfriend &#8212; in an altercation on June 8 and then fled, according to court documents.</p><p>Police said in a criminal complaint that Stackhouse and Bailey told them Bolton tried to enter the house through a kitchen window. They exited the house and a confrontation occurred with him in front of the house. They told police Bolton repeatedly struck them in their heads with a firearm, threatened to burn down the house and then fled.</p><p>Borough police obtained an arrest warrant for Bolton, and the Fugitive Task Force worked diligently to find him since that time, according to a news release from the Marshals Service.</p><p>Recently, task force members learned that Bolton was again back in the Duryea area, and they located him at 309 McAlpine St. Bolton initially attempted to flee the house via a second floor window, however, upon seeing law enforcement, retreated back inside, the USMS said.</p><p>Bolton allegedly ignored numerous commands to exit the residence, resulting in task force members breaching the door. Upon entry, Bolton was located, but he allegedly resisted arrest at first. Task force members also found Stackhouse inside the home and arrested her on a charge of hindering apprehension. Both were turned over to local police.</p><p>&#8220;We place a high priority on fugitive cases in which the use or threat of violence occurs,&#8221; U.S. Marshal Martin Pane said in a prepared statement. &#8220;Working with our task force law enforcement partners ensures violent offenders are brought to justice. I sincerely hope the community rests somewhat easier knowing a fugitive like Bolton is now off the streets.</p><p>Bolton, 52, faces charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, terroristic threats, harassment and disorderly conduct in connection with the alleged pistol-whipping assault. Additional charges of criminal trespass and defiant trespass were filed against Bolton, as well as against Stackhouse, 46, because the house in which they were found was posted as condemned.</p><p>Court records indicate the borough code enforcement officer condemned the house &#8220;following a meth lab incident.&#8221; Police previously said they discovered a disabled meth lab in the back yard of the residence after the June 8 assault and obtained a search warrant for the house.</p><p>Bolton and Stackhouse were arraigned before Magisterial District Judge James Dixon. Bolton&#8217;s bail was set at $100,000 in the assault case and at $25,000 on the trespass charges. Stackhouse&#8217;s bail also was set at $25,000. They were jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility to await their preliminary hearings, which are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Aug. 24.</p><p>Duryea Police Chief Nick Lohman said Bolton has been cooperative since in local police custody. He noted that Bolton had an additional outstanding warrant for parole violation from the Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole, so he would be detained regardless of any bail set at his arraignment.</p><p>Bolton gained notoriety in 2003 when he attempted escape with Selenski, who is serving two consecutive life sentences for the May 2002 strangulation killings of Michael J. Kerkowski and Tammy Lynn Fassett.</p><p>While Selenski crawled out a prison window, climbed down a rope of bedsheets and was on the lam for three days, Bolton was paralyzed in a fall during the escape attempt.</p><style>
