Judge: Foul ball suit can continue against Pirates, MLB

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) — The prosecution's case against a soldier accused of killing his then-14-year-old girlfriend's mother is over without the girl taking the stand. The Morning Call of Allentown reported (http://bit.ly/2b9q8pN ) prosecutors wrapped up their case Thursday against Army Spc. Caleb Barnes, accused of the March 2015 stabbing death of Cheryl Silvonek in the driveway of her eastern Pennsylvania home. Jamie Silvonek pleaded guilty in February to killing her mother and agreed to testify against her ex-boyfriend Barnes. She's now 15 and serving 35 years to life. Jurors heard Barnes say during a taped prison phone call he stabbed Cheryl Silvonek. Cheryl Silvonek had forbidden her daughter from dating Barnes, a soldier who was 20 years old at the time.
