DOVER, Del. (AP) — Officials say a fishing crew apparently pulled up unexploded ordnance while clamming and a fisherman was hospitalized with second-degree burns. The incident wasn't reported to authorities for a week, forcing a Delaware company to destroy more than 700 cases of clam chowder. U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Seth Johnson says a crew member needed to be treated at a hospital in Philadelphia after the Aug. 2 incident. A spokesman for Delaware's Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control says that clams from the ship were delivered to Sea Watch International, a seafood processor in Milford, Delaware. Rusty ordnance that was dumped at sea decades ago when environmental laws were more lax has been routinely dredged up by fishing vessels along the Atlantic Coast, including ordnance containing mustard agent.
