Appeals court rejects new sentence in drunken double fatal

WEST CHESTER, Pa. (AP) — An appeals court has rejected Pennsylvania man's request to reduce his 18- to 36-year prison sentence for a drunken driving crash that killed two teen siblings. A three-judge Superior Court panel rejected the appeal of 27-year-old Thomas Muir, of Media. He's serving the sentence in the February 2015 crash that killed 19-year-old Miles Hannagan and his 16-year-old sister, Charlotte. Chester County prosecutors say Muir's blood-alcohol level was twice the legal limit when his wild driving drew a series of 911 calls, before the crash. Authorities say his pickup got up to 98 mph before it slammed into a minivan on Route 100 in Exton, killing the siblings and injuring their parents. Muir's attorneys had argued the sentence was unduly harsh and wrongly influenced by third-degree murder charges that prosecutors mulled but never filed.
