<p>EXETER &#8211; Ryan Keyes wasn&#8217;t necessarily looking for history when he stepped onto Fox Hill Country Club on Monday to play in the annual Tryba Preseason Tournament.</p><p>But the Coughlin golfer certainly ran into some and joined elite company along the way.</p><p>Keyes, who is the reigning Times Leader Golfer of the Year, picked up where he left off last season firing a 1-under 70 to claim the individual title and best Crestwood&#8217;s Shane Angle by five strokes. In winning the event, Keyes became the first golfer from Coughlin to ever win the tourney in its 15-year-history.</p><p>&#8220;I definitely played to my potential today. Not a lot went wrong and I capitalized when I could,&#8221; he said. &#8220;That&#8217;s probably my best golf all year today. So I&#8217;m very happy about that.&#8221;</p><p>The senior, who finished tied for fourth in last year&#8217;s event, improved by eight shots from 2015 and became just the third golfer in Tryba history to win with a score under par joining Brandon Matthews and Mariano Medico as the only other two to do so.</p><p>Keyes got off to a fast start on the cool, breezy day on the course with birdies on the third and fourth holes and finished strong with a birdie on No. 16 as he became just the third golfer in the history of the Tryba to win the event while shooting under par joining good company in Brandon Matthews and Mariano Medico.</p><p>Playing with Holy Redeemer&#8217;s Kenny Wallace, Mason Gattuso from Dallas and Rob Lane from Wyoming Valley West, Keyes hopes this great round means success in the postseason like Matthews and Medico, who were both multiple time state medalists.</p><p>&#8220;I didn&#8217;t have any great shots. But I had a lot of good ones that really propelled me forward,&#8221; he said.</p><p>Dallas (321 strokes) knocked off two-time defending team champion Crestwood by five strokes to claim the team title for the fourth time since 2009, the last of Tom Kilduff&#8217;s four titles.</p><p>Kilduff passed away a little more than a year ago, and his daughter, Jane, took over the team. She led the Mountaineers to the championship on Monday on the same course when she last coached with her father.</p><p>&#8220;He was a really good coach and it&#8217;s scary to walk in his shoes,&#8221; said an emotional Jane Kilduff. &#8220;But to see how in my second year how we&#8217;re all coming together, it&#8217;s a good feeling. Just being here for that is huge too. I&#8217;m always excited to come here, but to win today was big.&#8221;</p><p>Dallas was paced by Gattuso (77) and Kyle McAndrew (78), who finished third and fourth overall, while Brett Ostroski&#8217;s 81 tied for 10th. Zac Bloom scored 85 to round out the scores for the squad. A nervous Kilduff anxiously waited and watched as scores were posted.</p><p>&#8220;We knew it was going to be close with Crestwood,&#8221; she said. &#8220;I knew we had a strong possibility, but I always tell the kids that until they produce, anything can go.&#8221;</p><p>Lake-Lehman&#8217;s Adam Motovidlak, who was a District 2 Class 2A qualifier from last year, tied for fifth overall with Holy Redeemer&#8217;s Derek Answini, both carding 79. Motovidlak helped the Black Knights finish third in the team race with 338, while Wyoming Seminary (339) and Wyoming Area (345) round out the top five.</p><p>Wyoming Area&#8217;s Nik Athman, Wyoming Seminary&#8217;s Liam Gilroy and Hazleton Area&#8217;s Frank Seratch all shot 80s to tie for seventh.</p><style>
