Prosecutors deny wrongdoing in wake of Hazleton homicide trial’s delay

<p>ASHLEY &#8212; Two people are facing drug manufacturing charges in connection with a suspected meth lab discovered Wednesday at 25 Preston St. by agents from the state Office of Attorney General.</p><p>Investigators say they discovered the lab when they contacted one of the home&#8217;s occupants, registered nurse Andrea Gosiewski, <a href="https://www.timesleader.com/news/local/579354/ashley-nurse-charged-with-stealing-leukemia-patients-narcotic-pain-meds" target="_blank">during an investigation into her alleged theft of prescription drugs from a leukemia patient</a>.</p><p>Gosiewski, 39, was initially charged with drug possession and theft offenses, but investigators have since charged both her and her housemate, Jeffrey Arnott, 50, with multiple felonies stemming from their alleged drug-making activities.</p><p>According to a police affidavit, investigators searching the home&#8217;s basement noticed an &#8220;overwhelming odor&#8221; consistent with that produced while cooking meth, as well as empty lighter fluid containers, acetone and coffee filters.</p><p>Arnott, who arrived home during the police search, admitted he had &#8220;made some speed&#8221; in the basement in the past, the affidavit says. Police say a further search of the home turned up numerous firearms, as well as pseudoephedrine and red phosphorus, both of which are commonly used to produce meth.</p><p>Investigators subsequently brought in the Pennsylvania State Police Clandestine Lab Response Team to deal with the hazardous materials in the home.</p><p>Arnott previously made the news in 2012 <a href="https://www.timesleader.com/archive/416883/stories-27tyler27-the-monkey-captured-in-ashley126361" target="_blank">when the Pennsylvania Game Commission seized his pet monkey, a Java Macaque named Tyler, after it fled from a police pursuit involving Arnott&#8217;s son</a>.</p><p>Both Gosiewski and Arnott were arraigned on the meth charges Thursday morning before Magesterial District Judge Joseph A. Halesey and lodged in the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of bail.</p><style>
