BERWICK, Pa. (AP) — Talen Energy has dropped plans to build another nuclear power plant next to one it already owns in northeastern Pennsylvania. The (Wilkes-Barre) Citizens' Voice (http://bit.ly/2bG9hKw ) says Talen announced Wednesday it was withdrawing its license application from the federal Nuclear Regulatory Commission. A related company, PPL Bell Bend LLC, filed an application in October 2008 to build the plant next to the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station in Luzerne County. The plant is about 45 miles southwest of Scranton, along the Susquehanna River. A private investment firm, Riverstone Holdings, helped create Talen Energy last year from PPL Energy Corp. Riverstone recently announced plans to buy the rest of Talen Energy's stock.
