Legislation allowing Pennsylvania Game Commission to set hunting license fees ready for vote

UNION TWP. &#8212; The development of a Northwest Foundation was brought into focus at Wednesday&#8217;s Northwest Area School Board meeting, with Shickshinny resident Gary Bau commended by a school administrator for his involvement in the project.Betsy Ellis, director of district operations, acknowledged Bau and encouraged the school directors to support the proposed program of the foundation, which will be to provide financial assistance to the district and its students.Actually, that&#8217;s what Bau, employed at Susquehanna Steam Electric Station, said is the goal of the foundation: &#8220;A non-profit organization designed to assist the educational endeavors of Northwest.&#8221;Bau said a bank account has been established to start to build a reserve. Efforts will ensue to seek contributions, which he said may be eligible for state and federal tax credits, from individuals and businesses.Additionally, on the fiscal front, the board unanimously acted to pay $245,182 in invoices for improvements made to several school buildings, including $144,570 for new bleachers at the high school, $13,950 for roof repairs and $38,700 for a new boiler at the high school.The cash outlay was from a capital improvements fund created through bonds issued by the district more than a year ago.The hiring of assistant coaches for spring and winter sports was also part of the agenda as was the appointment of Anthony Boberick as computer technician and the entering into a renewed contract with Desiree Adams for transportation services.<div class="metaInfo"><bylineMeta>By Tom HuntingtonFor Times Leader</bylineMeta></div>
