Our Opinion: Affiliate yourself with political ‘party’ of your own making, but be sure to register

<p>A week after posting a &#8220;Best Value Schools&#8221; link that led nowhere, U.S. News &amp; World Report&#8217;s let the world know what schools it believes offer the biggest bang for the buck. The good news: five local institutions made the list, all in the top 40.</p><p>The website&#8217;s &#8220;A-plus schools for B students&#8221; link&#8212; a list of highly-rated schools that &#8220;accept a significant number of students with non-stratospheric transcripts &#8212; also started working. Only one local institution made that list.</p><p>The lists are a bit more exclusive than the U.S. News &#8220;Best College&#8221; rankings released Sept. 13. Only schools that do well in the overall rankings are included in the best value set. Usually, all the rankings are released at once, but this year the links to the subset rankings didn&#8217;t initially work.</p><p>The lists are regional, and local schools are in the North Region, stretching essentially from Maryland through Maine.</p><p>Marywood University ranked highest on the best value list, hitting 18th. The school ranked 51 on the overall best regional college list.</p><p>The University of Scranton, which ranked sixth overall, was 22nd on the best value list. Other rankings: Misericordia University ranked 25th best value and 44th overall, King&#8217;s College ranked 30th best value and 57th overall, and Wilkes University ranked 34th best value and 85th overall.</p><p>The A-plus schools for B students had only one area school on what is a short list. The University of Scranton ranked sixth out of 67 schools that made the list. The U had a 72 percent acceptance rate in the fall of 2015.</p><p>.</p><style>
