Hazleton Area falters in second half of 16-7 defeat to Wallenpaupack

LAKE ARIEL &#8212; Scott Walck threw four touchdowns in the first half as the Western Wayne Wildcats took down the Tunkhannock Tigers (2-3) 35-14 in an nonconference matchup Friday night.The Wildcats (4-1) did not play last week following a forfeit by Holy Redeemer, but had no trouble keeping the momentum they&#8217;d built on their four-game win streak.Receiving the opening kickoff, Western Wayne took advantage of good field position and went on a seven-play, 57-yard drive, finished off when Walck found younger brother Dylan on a post route for a 7-0 lead.The Tigers answered, keeping the ball on the ground. Running back Logan Cywinski ran the ball seven times for 50 yards on their 8-play, 65-yard drive. Cywinksi ended the series bouncing an inside run to the Western Wayne sideline and finding the end zone from six-yards out to tie the score at 7.Neither team was able to mount a drive on their next possession. A Tigers punt gave the Wildcats the ball on their own eight, when the Wildcats got their run game going. They ran the ball seven times between Scott Walck, Danny Boots and Kobe Sauter, setting up a bootleg. Walck found Cole Fuller in the flat, who broke a tackle and rumbled 32-yards for the score to go up 14-7 at the start of the second quarter.Tunkhannock went three-and-out on their next drive, and a blocked punt gave the Wildcats the ball at midfield. The Wildcats kept the ball on the ground again for most of their nine-play, 56-yard drive, and Walck found younger brother Bailey in the end zone from 11 yards out to extend the lead to 14.Cywinski, who also lined up at quarterback during the game threw an interception on the Tigers&#8217; first play of the drive, and was returned for a touchdown by Dylan Walck, but a holding penalty negated the return. The Wildcats missed a field goal to give the Tigers the ball back with two minutes in the half.Another Tigers three and out, and Western Wayne got the ball back on their own 21 with under a minute before halftime. Walck completed passes of 31, 32 and 9 yards before finding Bailey in the back of the end zone again with under four seconds in the half to go up 28-7.Bailey Walck caught three passes for 17 yards and two touchdowns.Scott Walck finished the game completing 17 of 23 passes for 226 yards and four touchdowns. He also added 40 yards on the ground.The Tigers got the ball to start the second half, and got their ground game going once again. Cywinski touched the ball eight times on the opening possession, including a halfback pass on fourth down to keep the drive alive. He finished it himself on a 3-yard off-tackle run to cut the lead to 28-14 with 7:51 left in the third quarter.Cywinski finished the game with 111 yards on 20 carries and two TDs, and completed 2 passes for 22 yards before leaving midway through the third quarter with a hamstring injury.Western Wayne punted on their next drive, and Tigers quarterback Zack Rogers threw an interception to Dylan Walck, his second of the game.In addition to his two picks, Dylan grabbed 5 catches for 86 yards and a touchdown.The Wildcats took over with 3:25 left in the third quarter, and held the ball for more than six minutes, keeping it on the ground, alternating between Kobe Sauter and Danny Boots before Sauter punched the ball in from 2 yards out with 9:27 left in the fourth quarter, extending the lead to 35-14.Tunkhannock returns home to face Lake Lehman (2-3) next Friday.Tunkhannock 14, Western Wayne 35Tunkhannock `7`0`7`0`&#8212;`14Western Wayne `7`21`0`7`&#8212;`35First quarterWW &#8212; Scott Walck 27-yard pass to Dylan Walck.
