Jeff Knarr would like his King&#8217;s College football team to run the ball more beginning this week.Knarr knows that&#8217;s something he can count on from his opponent.King&#8217;s hosts Lebanon Valley, the team that leads the Middle Atlantic Conference in both rushing attempts and rushing yards in Saturday&#8217;s 1 p.m. Homecoming game.Both teams enter the game 1-1 in the MAC and 1-2 overall.&#8220;They love to run the ball,&#8221; Knarr said. &#8220;They&#8217;re the best running team in the conference. They have three very good tailbacks.&#8220;They&#8217;re not afraid the ball on any down and distance. Then, if you start overemphasizing the run, they&#8217;ll hit you with a big, deep pass.&#8221;In their first season under coach Joe Buehler, the Flying Dutchmen lead the MAC with 223 rushing yards per game, but are last in passing yards (95.7).Quarterback Tim Pirrone is just 23 for 50 passing for 273 yards, but he&#8217;s a big part of the running game with 163 yards and three touchdowns. He&#8217;s one of four backs, who are between 125 and 185 yards rushing.King&#8217;s was doing well offensively before being held to 125 yards total offense by nationally ranked Delaware Valley in last week&#8217;s 49-14 loss.The Monarchs have been the opposite of the Flying Dutchmen with a league-high 312.3 yards per game rushing, but just 61.0 passing.&#8220;We&#8217;re looking for this game to possibly be able to get our running game going,&#8221; Knarr said. &#8220;Two of our three games, the score dictated that we throw the ball more.&#8220;And, with our opponents and what they were good at, what we had had success with more in the past was to throw the ball.&#8221;Knarr is ready to change that up after finishing with just two net rushing yards against the Aggies.&#8220;This is a good defense,&#8221; he said. &#8220;If we&#8217;re going to be successful, we&#8217;ve got to be able to do both, so we&#8217;ve put an emphasis on the offensive side to get our running game going.&#8221;The passing game appears to be in good shape.Zach Whitehead opened the season with consecutive school record performances. He is 81 for 133 for 905 yards and six touchdowns, with four interceptions.Tyler Marroni has 20 catches and Mike Palmer 19.Freshman Alvonte Thompson has been part of the passing attack with six catches for 88 yards and a touchdown, but also leads the team in rushing with 129 on 24 carries.King&#8217;s linebacker Bruce Damon continues to lead the MAC in tackles. He followed up a 16-tackle effort in the win over Lycoming with 17 last week.Lycoming at Misericordia, 1 p.m.The Cougars (0-2, 0-3) are off to a rough start, but saw some progress last week in their most competitive game to date, falling 46-23 at Wilkes.Brandon Leap threw for 217 yards and two touchdowns.Lycoming (0-2, 1-2) has dropped two straight, losing 17-3 to Albright last week after losing to King&#8217;s, 41-28.Blake Bowman, one of the most productive runners in Lycoming school history, has been effective for the Warriors against Misericordia during his career. He has carried 60 times for 412 yards and 4 touchdowns in 3 games.Bowman leads the MAC in rushing yards (340) and touchdowns (6). He&#8217;s sixth nationally in touchdowns and 23rd nationally in yards per game.Wilkes at Widener, 1 p.m.Both teams put up at least 40 points in wins last week.Wide receiver William Deemer was named MAC Offensive Player of the Week after catching nine passes for 168 yards and 2 touchdowns when Wilkes (1-1, 1-2) beat Misericordia.Widener (1-0, 1-1) held FDU-Florham to negative rushing yards in a 40-7 romp. Linebacker Steve Gozur and lineman Casey Kerschner each have four tackles for losses for the Pride.<style>
