HAZLETON &#8212; It was a textbook trap game for powerhouse Delaware Valley. Winless Hazleton Area was sandwiched between undefeated North Pocono and undefeated Williamsport on the Warriors&#8217; schedule.Heeding Admiral Ackbar&#8217;s warning, Delaware Valley did not fall into the trap in a 35-0 victory Friday over Hazleton Area in a windy, damp contest.The Warriors prevailed in unrestrained fashion. Hazleton Area mustered just 68 yards of total offense. Delaware Valley&#8217;s defense kept the Cougars to minus-28 yards rushing on 32 attempts. (Although, the Cougars were sent a combined 48 yards in the wrong direction, thanks to a pair of misguided snaps).&#8220;You can&#8217;t beat experience,&#8221; Delaware Valley coach Keith Olsommer said. &#8220;We have an older team, and they have a younger team. They were a young team coming into the year with a lot of injuries. I thought that showed a little bit.&#8221;Delaware Valley quarterback Matt Cavallaro was nearly unstoppable, and the Hazleton Area secondary had little answer to the Warriors&#8217; passing attack. In just one half of work, Cavallaro completed 11 of 12 passes for 235 yards and four touchdowns.Cavallaro hit Trevor Smith on a 29-yard strike in the end zone to end a scoreless game with 4:32 left in the first quarter. Two possessions later, he hit Trevor&#8217;s brother, Tyler, for a 7-yard touchdown just before the end of the first quarter for a 14-0 lead.&#8220;Our quarterback can throw pretty good,&#8221; Olsommer said. &#8220;You keep getting into situations where you can get an advantage, and Matt gives us an opportunity to take that. He can throw out of the pocket well. He&#8217;s just an experienced guy.&#8221;Hazleton Area had two red zone chances to end the shutout. The Cougars turned the ball over on downs on the Warriors&#8217; 20 early in the second quarter and were unsuccessful at converting a fourth down at the DV 13 in the third quarter.The game turned ugly for the Cougars in the final 90 seconds of the first half. Ryan Obiso took a Cavallaro pass from behind the line of scrimmage untouched for 72 yards. On the first play of the Cougars&#8217; possession, Hazleton Area coughed up a fumble at the 10-yard line to set up the Warriors&#8217; second touchdown in an eight-second plan &#8211; a Cavallaro pass to Dylan Kelly.Hazleton Area quarterback Sparky Wolk completed half of his 18 passes for 93 yards.
