<p>Is the Cold War really dead? Was it really ended with the Reagan administration?</p><p>While I truly admire our former commander in chief, especially with his strong stand against communism, I fear we still haven&#8217;t learned from history.</p><p>First, let&#8217;s take our former ally in World War II, the Soviet Union. Today it&#8217;s called Russia. No matter how you refer to it today, it&#8217;s still communist in my opinion. It&#8217;s characterized by state-controlled media, the harassment and killing of political foes, and an apparent desire to retake the former Baltic States, as well as Poland, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Romania and the Ukraine. It reminds me of the invasion of Poland, especially when Adolf Hitler claimed sabotage by Poland against Germany. Sound familiar?</p><p>Russian President Vladimir Putin charges into the Ukraine. There have been Russian military maneuvers with paratroopers, tanks and naval ships in the Caspian and Baltic seas; these should be taken as warning signs.</p><p>A strong NATO presence is absolutely necessary to deter the second coming of Joseph Stalin. </p><p>Then we have the Korean War. The Soviet Union and Red China come to the aid of North Korea and its brutal dictatorship, attacking the South Korean people. Our gallant armed forces, together with the United Nations and our allies, defend the government of the South against communism.</p><p>It&#8217;s not &#8220;the forgotten war,&#8221; as some of you call it. To me, it&#8217;s the war to be remembered, and why we as Americans &#8211; young and old &#8211; should thank God for who we are and get down on our knees every day to thank him and our military that we are free.</p><p>Third, we come to the Berlin Wall &#8211; the separation of the capital of once all of Germany, built to keep East Germans from migrating to the West. People were murdered to keep them from fleeing to the West.</p><p>And I don&#8217;t have to tell you about the next war. Actually, it started in 1954 with the French occupation of its former colony of South Vietnam. Our participation began with the Eisenhower administration. More than 58,000 of our bravest, youngest citizens gave their lives to stop the invasion of South Vietnam by the North, again with its Communist Manifesto.</p><p>Go to Washington, D.C. Visit the memorials of the fallen heroes at our national cemeteries, including Arlington National Cemetery.</p><p>This is why, my friends, we need to keep our solidarity with our NATO and ANZUS (The Australia, New Zealand, United States Security Treaty) partners to counter the threats of Russia, China, North Korea, Iran, and all threats of Islamic terrorists.</p><p>Hopefully whomever becomes our next president has the foresight to have in our various Cabinet positions former military commanders of the likes of David Petraeus, Stanley McChrystal, Raymond Odierno, Adm. Joe Sestak, and former NATO Commander Gen.
