Freshman Franco Balbuena finished second and shattered the previous 8k program record to help the Wilkes men&#8217;s cross country team finish 10th at the DeSales University Invitational Saturday morning.Balbuena finished in 27:02 to beat the previous record of 27:47 set by Jordan Lindley at the MAC Championships last season.Freshman Matthew Houser (38th, 28:43), freshman Kevin Singhel (62nd, 29:32), freshman Nicholas Moullette (69th, 29:57), freshman Ryan Weber (71st, 30:04), freshman Brandon Ver-Non (79th, 30:34), and junior Kendrick Schell (80th, 30:42) rounded out the Colonels finishers.MU finishes 8th at InvyMisericordia finished eighth of 38 teams at the DeSales Invitational.Sean Luzzi (26:12) finished 13th and Alexander Fitch (26:40) and Trever Reed (26:48) were 26th and 33rd, respectively. Zach Moody (27:54) was 72nd and Jonathan Buck (28:05) finished 79th.Dickinson had 52 points to win the team title.King&#8217;s finishes 15th at invyIn the men&#8217;s 8K race, Ben Sigel finished 33rd overall for the Monarchs with a personal best time of 26:48. Nilang Suthar also ran a personal best finishing in 69th place with a time of 27:43. Michael Havrilla finished 77th overall with a personal best time of 27:57 and Andrew Martuscelli also ran a personal best with a time of 30:17 to finish in 148th place. Michael Duncklee finished 159th overall in 3:40 to round out the scoring for the Monarchs.Jaryd Flank of Muhlenberg College won the race in 25:34 while Dickinson College took home the team title with 52 points.WOMEN&#8217;S CROSS COUNTRYWilkes&#8217; Jones sets recordSophomore Morgan Jones set a new school record in the 6k and finished in the top 10 while Wilkes finished 18th overall out of 35 schools at the DeSales University Invitational.Jones finished in 22:42, beating her previous record of 23:59 in a 6k race set at MAC Championships last season.Freshman Caroline Rickard (105th, 25:40), freshman Kyleigh Smeltzer (121st, 26:53), Carmen Hillman (167th, 28:11), freshman Carly Hein (185th, 29:12), freshman Kaitlin Sutton (192nd, 29:28), and junior Kaitlyn Sitch (194th, 29:42) rounded out the Lady Colonel finishers.Misericordia finishes 5th at DeSalesMisericordia University finished fifth of 35 teams at the DeSales Invitational.Bethany Killmon (22:59) finished 16th and Amy Viti (23:11) and Clare Schoen (23:17) were 25th and 28th, respectively.Meredtih Hartz (24:03) was 44th and Emma Federinko (24:13) was 50th.Dickinson won the event with 64 points.King&#8217;s finishes 19th at DeSalesIn the women&#8217;s 6K race freshman Tara Johnson continued her impressive start to her career with a 32nd place finish with a time of 23:23. Gabrielle Longchamp ran a 27:18 to finish 159th and Lauren Sterner rounded out the top five in 194th with a time of 28:58. Kristine Kentkowski finished in 29:21 and Irene Argiris ran a 29:56 as King&#8217;s sixth and seventh runners.Jamie Pacilio of Muhlenberg was the individual champion with a time of 22:01 while Dickinson took home the team title with 54 points.MEN&#8217;S TENNISWilkes finds success at MAC championshipsWilkes University saw six of seven singles flights advances and all four double pairs move onto semifinal play after day one and two of the 2016 Middle Atlantic Conference Individual Championships at the Ralston Athletic Complex, Kirby Park and the Kingston Indoor Tennis Club.At No. 1 singles, Courtney Murphy, the top seed, advanced to the semifinal round with a 6-2, 6-1 win over FDU-Florham&#8217;s Max Moscowitz in the quarterfinals. Murphy will face Messiah&#8217;s Tim Dunn in the semifinal tomorrow.At No. 1 doubles, after a bye in the first round, the duo of Murphy and Jonathan White posted an 8-1 victory over Hood&#8217;s Sexton/Brady to move into the semifinals. They will face Albright&#8217;s pair of Muolo/Richardson in the semifinals.King&#8217;s advances eight to semifinalsThe King&#8217;s College men&#8217;s tennis team continues to shine in the Middle Atlantic Conference Individual Championships as the Monarchs advanced five singles players and three doubles teams to the semi-final round. All King&#8217;s remaining qualifiers will play the semifinals Sunday morning with hopes of reaching the MAC title matches Sunday afternoon.At No. 1 singles, King&#8217;s third-seeded Pete Kazmierczak advanced to the semifinals with a 6-2, 6-4 victoy over Nick Simeone of Arcadia. In the semifinals he will face second-seeded Matt Muoio of Albright.In doubles, King&#8217;s team of Kazmierczak and Carl reached the semi-finals with an 8-2 victory over Jorey and Josh Ferraro of DeSales. They will play the team of Bryan Gieselman and Worden Ly of Stevenson on Sunday&#8217;s semi-finals.WOMEN&#8217;S VOLLEYBALLMisericordia splits tri-matchMisericordia University split a tri-match with Penn State Berks and Centenary.After dropping the opener to Penn State Berks in five sets (25-22, 25-15, 19-25, 15-25, 10-15), the Cougars swept Centenary, 3-0 (25-7, 25-13, 26-24).Coleby Charlier had a team-high 12 kills in the opener and Tara Welliver and Michelle Sehested both add 10 kills. Sehested had 14 digs and Welliver added 12.Paige Shaughnessy had eight kills, 15 digs and four aces. Nicole Tagerty had 43 assists and Kaitlin Wheeler had 18 digs and three aces.In the nightcap, Welliver had a team-high 12 kills and five aces while Charlier and Megan Collins both had six kills.Tagerty had 34 assists and Wheeler had four aces.Wilkes drops two at Lycoming TournamentWilkes dropped a 3-0 decision to Alfred State before falling 3-1 against the University of Rochester in its final match of the Lycoming College Tip-Off Tournament.Wilkes fell to Alfred State by scores of 25-14, 25-20 and 25-20. Ally Paskas led the way offensively with five kills and nine digs. Jamey Mikovich followed with four kills and two blocks. Madison Scarfaro added three kills and three total blocks. Alexis Morgan assisted on 11 of Wilkes&#8217; 17 kills in the match. Juliet Betke anchored the backline with a team-high 17 digs.The Lady Colonels then fell to Rochester 3-1 by scores of 25-12, 15-18, 26-25 and 25-16. She also finished first in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:55.10.The relay team of freshman Shannon Hogan, sophomore Allie Aspey, senior Cassie Morey, and sophomore Danielle McCole opened the meet with a first place finish in the 200 medley, finishing in 2:01.78. The team of freshman Cassie Merrill, freshman Elizabeth Dyminski, freshman Maura Clarke, and Williams captured first in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:57.37.Hogan finished first in the 100 freestyle with a time of 59.49 and finished second in the 200 freestyle in 2:13.38. McCole came in second in the 50 freestyle in 27.80 and was the runner up in the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:01.45. Aspey finished in second in the 200 IM in 2:31.84 and second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:20.29.MEN&#8217;S SWIMMINGMisericordia 115, Marywood 76Tom Scott and Joe Grzech both won three times as the Misericordia University men&#8217;s swim team opened the season with a 115-76 win at Marywood.Scott won the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke and was part of the 200 medley relay. Grzech won the 100 back and was part of two relay wins.Michael Zuilkoski, Nick Lucca and Aidan Bergan added individual wins for the Cougars.William Paterson 115, Wilkes 85The relay team of freshmen Anthony Stampone, Nick Walker, Tyler Weatherby, and Seth Platukis finished first in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:37.96. The team of freshman Phillip Bennett, junior Thurman Fogleman, freshman Thomas Burner, and senior Matthew Nevers finished second in the 200 medley with a time of 1:57.09.Platukis set a new school record in the 200 freestyle when he finished second in 1:55.30 and also finished first in the 100 freestyle with a time of 53.12.Senior Christopher Bright finished first in the 11 breaststroke with a time of 1:08.80.Stampone finished second in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 12:07.97, and also finished second in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:48.72. Weatherby set a new program record in the 100 butterfly with a time of 59.07, and finished second in the 200 IM in 2:20.06.Women&#8217;s Field HockeyManhattanville 3, Wilkes 2Senior Maura Anistranski got Wilkes on the board in the eighth minute when she converted a penalty stroke opportunity.The Valiants countered with goals in the 15th and 32nd minutes to take a 2-1 lead.Freshman Gianna Gennetts continued her exceptional freshman season with the tying goal in the 37th minute when she scored with an assist from sophomore Megan Kane.Manhattanville notched the game-winner in the 62nd minute.Sophomore goalkeeper Dallas Kendra made two saves in goal for the Lady Colonels.<style>
