<p>KINGSTON &#8212; A remorseful Jonathan Fox, accused of <a href="https://www.timesleader.com/news/591752/police-searching-for-suspect-that-allegedly-robbed-credit-union-in-kingston" target="_blank">robbing a credit union in Kingston on Sept. 29</a>, is hoping to get clean while in prison.</p><p>Fox, 25, appeared before Magisterial District Judge Paul Roberts for a preliminary hearing Wednesday. Two counts of robbery were waived to higher court, while a third was withdrawn.</p><p>Fox allegedly robbed the UFCW Federal Credit Union at 570 Market St. Officers spoke with a teller who told them a white male, later identified as Fox, came into the bank, displayed a black semi-automatic pistol and stated, &#8220;The faster you go, the better you&#8217;ll be,&#8221; according to a criminal complaint.</p><p>Fox told the Times Leader he began &#8220;dabbling with pills&#8221; about two years ago. He added his addiction took a turn for the worst when his father, Steve Fox Sr., died earlier this year.</p><p>&#8220;I just fell off, you know what I mean,&#8221; he said.</p><p>Fox&#8217;s mother, Sylvia Fox, 51, of Wilkes-Barre, also noted that her ex-husband&#8217;s death earlier this year struck Jonathan particularly hard. She said her son is known for his &#8220;bubbly&#8221; and outgoing personality.</p><p>&#8220;Ever since then, he just kind of went off the hook,&#8221; she said.</p><p>Witnesses reported seeing Fox flee the bank, prompting borough and state police to block several streets in an attempt to &#8220;box in&#8221; the alleged robber in the vicinity of Wright Street and Rutter Avenue.</p><p>Sylvia explained after the alleged robbery, she took her son to the hospital for crisis treatment. It wasn&#8217;t long after that she learned about his alleged actions.</p><p>Weeks after the incident, Fox apologized for what happened.</p><p>&#8220;Hopefully, the bank teller and anybody else I hurt in the process of doing this will recover properly,&#8221; he said. &#8220;I didn&#8217;t want to hurt anybody doing this. I tried to be as polite as possible through everything.&#8221;</p><p>While Fox&#8217;s charges move into the county court system, he plans to get himself clean of his addiction while in prison.</p><p>&#8220;Right now, I think it&#8217;s the place for me to be so I can get clean, get my head on straight and eventually live my life again,&#8221; he said. He added that when he gets out, he would like to get into counseling to help others who might be on similar paths.</p><p>Sylvia just hopes her son will get help.</p><p>&#8220;I know he needs help,&#8221; she said. &#8220;He needs help somewhere, and jail is not going to do that.&#8221;</p><p>Fox is scheduled for a formal arraignment at the Luzerne County Courthouse at 10 a.m. Jan. 5. He remains jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $50,000 bail.</p><style>
