Letter to the Editor: Democrats’ agenda ‘deplorable,’ not people who oppose it

<p>What a fabulous year for our Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders &#8211; Governors&#8217; Cup champions and Triple-A national champions.</p><p>On behalf of the 214,000 residents of Lackawanna County, I offer my congratulations to the players, fans, staff and management of the team for the excitement and pride that they created for our community. The top-flight action brought fans through the turnstiles in record numbers and generated valuable revenue for our local economy.</p><p>Minor League Baseball is great for our area. The operation has an annual economic impact of more than $50 million on our community. It is a great draw that has a spin-off effect on several other elements in the community.</p><p>PNC Field showcases many other aspects of our community. Out-of-town guests have the opportunity to enjoy our parks, catch a glimpse of our history at the trolley museum and coal mine tour, shop in our stores, dine in our restaurants, use our service centers, attend a concert at the Montage amphitheater, and much more.</p><p>It is hard to believe that only four years ago this renovation project almost didn&#8217;t happen. With financial assistance from the state, significant commitments and resources from the New York Yankees, and support from our past administration, the decision became a reality. I was proud to play a role in keeping baseball here.</p><p>It was the right decision. It also should be noted that it would have cost the county in excess of $2 million to demolish the facility, level the site, and leave it barren for who knows how long.</p><p>All of us in Lackawanna County are looking forward to a repeat performance in 2017. That would be great, especially since we are the host site for the Triple-A National Championship Game.</p><p>Thank you, RailRiders. See you next spring.</p><p><strong>Patrick M.
