LATROBE, Pa. (AP) — The pilot of a small plane has been flown to a Pittsburgh hospital after crashing at Arnold Palmer Regional Airport. Gabe Monzo, executive director of the Westmoreland County Airport Authority, says pilot Doug Splitstone was taken to the hospital as a precaution. He was the only one aboard when the Piper Warrior crashed about 10:30 a.m. Friday. Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Jim Peters says the plan was doing practice maneuvers when it flipped over into a grassy infield. FAA registration records show the plane is owned by Westmoreland Aviation Holding Co. Inc. in Murrysville. The company owns and maintains airplanes used to teach people to fly. The airport is n Unity Township along U.S. Route 30, about 40 miles east of Pittsburgh. A commercial Spirit Airlines flight was diverted to Cleveland because of the crash.
