Suspect in homeless man’s fatal stabbing gets funding for mental health expert

<p>WILKES-BARRE TWP. &#8212; Fans will get a look at the new Club Pub at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza and that&#8217;s about all.</p><p>The bar built exclusively for club seat holders doesn&#8217;t have an occupancy permit from Wilkes-Barre Township and will be closed for the home opener of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins hockey team Saturday night.</p><p>Brian Sipe, general manager with SMG, the firm hired to manage the 17-year-old facility, Friday confirmed that the pub will not be serving drinks.</p><p>&#8220;It will not be occupied tomorrow,&#8221; he said.</p><p>Luzerne County Convention Center Authority members held a ribbon cutting Wednesday to showcase the pub. It cost more than $700,000 to build it and relocate Chickie&#8217;s &amp; Pete&#8217;s concession in the capital project. But missing in the mix was the securing of a permit.</p><p>At the authority&#8217;s public meeting Wednesda authority member Ed Harry said he thought the permit was held up because township zoning and code enforcement officer Tom Zedolik was called out for an earlier inspection on his day off and was &#8220;playing a gotcha.&#8221;</p><p>Zedolik was off Friday on a scheduled vacation day. He said he did not issue the permit because comments about the fire protection system he wrote on the drawings for the pub back in July were not answered.</p><p>&#8220;They had all the time, all the time in the world,&#8221; Zedolik said.</p><p>Jason Humenanski backed up Zedolik.</p><p>Humenanski, a principal with BHW Construction Consultation Services Inc. of Plains Township, said the company does third-party plan reviews for Wilkes-Barre Township. He did the initial review of the project&#8217;s plans.</p><p>&#8220;This is not the township&#8217;s fault,&#8221; Humenanski said Friday. The architect from Quad 3, the firm heading the project, was notified at the very beginning that shop drawings would be needed to show where electrical devices would be located and what type would be used, he said. The information is necessary to ensure they are compatible with the existing fire alarm panel, he explained.</p><p>Humenanski said he was surprised by what he got back. &#8220;None of it was professional to say the least,&#8221; he said.</p><p>He said he suspected someone was &#8220;rushing through it&#8221; to try to get it ready in time.</p><p>&#8220;This was not Tom&#8217;s fault,&#8221; Humenanski said. &#8220;Somebody messed up, and they got to take ownership.&#8221;</p><style>
