<p>I get it. Donald Trump is a financial genius. He lost almost a billion dollars two decades ago and powered back from the brink of financial ruin.</p><p>He has stamina and a winner&#8217;s temperament. He understands tax law better than anyone else, and he is in his rights to legally push the limits of any and all deductions. He has the right to pay his creditors whatever the bankruptcy courts allow, and if it&#8217;s pennies on the dollar, so be it. Trump has a responsibility to himself, his family and his business associates. This is capitalism; this is America. This is the system in which we live.</p><p>What I don&#8217;t get is this: When did Trump see the light and realize just how unfair the system is? I do not understand when he decided that it was wrong to allow special interests in the real estate lobby to create rules that favored him and his associates at our expense. He now wants us to believe that he will dismantle the very system that enabled him to become wealthy.</p><p>We are being asked to believe that he will enact laws that will cost him and his businesses millions of dollars &#8211; and probably rob his children of millions of dollars in their inheritances. When did Trump decide to work against his own best interest and that of his family?</p><p>We are being asked to believe that Trump will now change the rigged and corrupt system that he owes so much to. Why? Is he feeling repentant? Is he feeling guilty about all of his wealth? He rarely, if ever, expresses remorse, and he seems to really enjoy being rich.</p><p>Somehow I doubt his sincerity. Somehow I don&#8217;t think that he really wants me at his exclusive resorts, rubbing elbows with his rich friends.</p><p>He insists that he&#8217;s for the working man. Being a &#8220;job creator&#8221; is not the same thing as advocating for workers.</p><p>Ask yourself, who is this guy?</p><p>And now ask yourself, can a leopard change its spots?</p><p>The answer is no.</p><p><strong>Alec Frank</strong></p><p>Wilkes-Barre</p><style>
