Wilkes-Barre Area School Board approves costly repair to GAR roof

<p>There is a concerted effort by special interests, abetted by the General Assembly, to enact anti-driver legislation. Like so many things today, follow the money to understand the improper emphasis on these issues.</p><p>The bills include arming all municipalities with radar and lidar &#8211; as proposed in HB 71, HB 1300, SB 535, SB 559 and HB 1300, along with HB 1255, which creates a slush fund from traffic fines. They also include calls for stop-arm cameras on school buses (HB 634 and HB 1249), speed cameras in work zones (SB 840, HB 2236), and speed cameras on Roosevelt Boulevard in Philadelphia (SB 1034, HB 2233).</p><p>There is no epidemic of work-zone fatalities; there is no crisis of school bus fatalities. The boulevard is a nightmare of engineering and government malpractice, but speed cameras won&#8217;t improve safety, only raise money.</p><p> Governments are totally broke. Drivers are seen as easy marks: Officials then hide behind the claim of &#8220;safety.&#8221;</p><p>This is an election year, and we need to send the politicians a message: Vote no on the bills listed above or face defeat in November.</p><p><strong>Tom McCarey</strong></p><p>Berwyn</p><style>
