KINGSTON &#8212; If Tuesday night&#8217;s matchup between Wyoming Seminary and Holy Redemeer taught District 2 2A fans and opponents anything, at the very least, the upcoming district tournament is going to include some exciting boys soccer.In a showdown between the top-2 teams in Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2, 60 minutes wasn&#8217;t enough and the game ended in a 0-0 double-overtime tie.&#8220;Coming into it, (a tie&#8217;s) definitely something you&#8217;d expect,&#8221; Holy Redeemer senior goalkeeper Anthony Khoudary said. &#8220;I mean, they&#8217;re a great team and we got the better of them last time, but they&#8217;ve definitely progressed.&#8220;We&#8217;ve progressed. We&#8217;ve both gotten a lot better and they&#8217;ve always played us hard. We&#8217;ve always had great games with them and coming into today, we knew it was going to be a battle. Coming out with a tie, it&#8217;s not something you want, but I&#8217;ll take it,&#8221; he said.In a game that could have went either way, both team&#8217;s had their fair share of chances, especially in the second half.Just five minutes into the second portion of 40 minutes, Holy Redeemer had a one-on-one fastbreak against Seminary sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Anderson. But just as the Royals attacker neared the goal, Anderson came out of the net to take the ball away.Less than two minutes later, Holy Redeemer had another fastbreak opportunity, but Wyoming Seminary defender Grayson Butcher had a perfect slide tackle to take the ball away before Anderson could be tested.&#8220;He came up big,&#8221; Seminary head coach Rev. Charles Carrick said of Anderson. &#8220;He&#8217;s a young kid, a sophomore, but there&#8217;s been some games, and this is one of them, where he came up big. He was aggressive and made some key stops, came out for the ball and shut them down.&#8221;The Blue Knights first of two good second-half chances came with 20:30 remaining in regulation.Wyoming Seminary got off a shot near the Holy Redeemer goal, Khoudary tipped the shot, but couldn&#8217;t control it and the ball rolled towards the net, but before it rolled in &#8212; centimeters from counting &#8212; Redeemer junior midfielder Devin Dougherty was there to kick the ball away.&#8220;Someone got a shot off, and I didn&#8217;t want to risk it, I didn&#8217;t want to assume,&#8221; Khoudary said. &#8220;(My teammates) all told me it was out, but I still went for it. I didn&#8217;t clamp it down &#8212; I made a mistake &#8212; and when I hit it, it came over towards the goal. I looked over, I just see Devin on the goal line taking care of it. He saved my life.&#8221;Wyoming Seminary&#8217;s second chance came with 1:25 remaining in regulation, but a Redeemer defender made a perfect slide tackle on the one-on-one opportunity allowing Khoudary to come up with the save.Like the majority of regulation, each team had plenty of opportunities, but neither could cash in.A 0-0 tie wasn&#8217;t something either team was looking for, and if the two teams meet again in the postseason, it&#8217;s a rubber match both squads will be looking forward to.&#8220;Absolutely, it definitely adds to the rivalry,&#8221; Khoudary said of the tie. &#8220;Another hard-fought game between the two, and two of the top-2 teams in the conference, two of the top-2 teams in the district. I don&#8217;t know if we&#8217;ll see them (again). If there&#8217;s a tiebreaker (for the conference) in the district. I don&#8217;t know when we&#8217;ll see them. We&#8217;ll definitely see them again and we&#8217;re looking forward to it. It&#8217;ll definitely be one of the better games.&#8221;Hanover Area 3, Berwick 2Modou Janneh scored all three goals for the Hawkeyes, picking up the game-winner on a penalty kick with 14:26 left. Nick Hontz set up the other two.The Bulldogs converted two penalty kicks of their own with Ken Marshman scoring twice for a 2-1 halftime lead.Nanticoke 2, Lake-Lehman 1Brian Kotz scored a pair of second-half goals to rally the Trojans past the Black Knights. The first came on a penalty kick in the 50th minute and the winner came just two minutes later off an assist from Zack Cardone.Kyle Sincavage opened the scoring for Lehman.Wyo.
