LAKE ARIEL &#8212; Kobe Sauter carried the ball 28 times for 146 yards and three touchdowns as Western Wayne beat the Meyers 26-21 to claim the Eastern Conference Class 3A Championship on Friday.The Wildcats won the toss and elected to receive the opening kickoff, but turned the ball over when Willie Wallace picked off Scott Walck.Taking over at their own 40-yard line, the Mohawks went on a 12-play, 60-yard drive, ending with a Janssen Wilborn 3-yard run to jump out to an early 7-0 lead with 4:41 remaining in the first quarter.The Wildcats went three-and-out on their next drive, punting the ball to the Mohawks 36-yard line.The Mohawks marched down the field again, highlighted by a Wilborn 24-yard run to get down to the 5-yard line to end the first quarter. Two plays later, Reese Patronick punched the ball in from three yards out for a 14-0 advantage.Wilborn was the leading rusher on the day for the Mohawks, carrying the ball 12 times for 102 yards. He also completed eight of 16 passes for 95 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions.The two teams traded field position until the Wildcats blocked a punt, setting up a goal-to-go situation from the two. Two plays later, Kobe Sauter scored from three yards out. A missed PAT cut the lead to 14-6 with 3:05 remaining, but the blocked punt would prove an important swing in momentum for Western Wayne, who scored 20 of their 26 points off of turnovers and big special teams plays.After forcing a punt, Western Wayne took over on their own 48 with 1:30 left. The Wildcats converted two fourth downs and with 20 seconds left in the half, Walck hit Cameron Kilgallon for a touchdown to cut the lead to 14-12.On the first play of the second half, Wilborn fumbled the snap and Cole Fuller recovered. Three plays later, Sauter scored on a 6-yard run. On the two point conversion, Sauter got the ball again for a 21-20 lead.On their next possession, the Mohawks answer, gashing the Wildcats in the ground game with Wilborn. However after a sack and two incomplete passes, the Mohawks faced a fourth and 20 from the Wildcats 31 yard line. Wilborn&#8217;s pass was deflected right into the hands of Khabir Williams for the touchdown, putting the Mohawks up 21-20 after the PAT with 5:09 remaining in the third quarter.The two teams exchanged field possession for the rest of the quarter until Dylan Walck scooped up a Michael Horvath fumble and returned it to the Mohawks 13-yard-line. Three plays later, Sauter scored his third touchdown of the game on a four-yard run.After a failed 2-point conversion, the Wildcats led 26-21.Dylan Walck picked off Wilborn in the end zone on their next possession, and held onto the ball until a late fumble by Sauter gave Meyers a chance with 1:07 remaining in the game.
