<p><em>It takes a lot of fuel to power through a 60-minute hockey game. Constant skating alone burns countless calories, and players have become increasingly attuned to what they eat as a major part of their daily training regiment. Hockey players are as particular about their meals as they are their sticks.</em></p><p><em>Ever wonder about what keeps a hockey player going during a long, grueling season? Each week we&#8217;ll take a look at what&#8217;s on a player&#8217;s plate after practice and before a game.</em></p><p><strong>BARRY GOERS</strong></p><p><strong>Defense</strong></p><p><strong>Ivyland, PA</strong></p><p><strong>Pregame meal:</strong> &#8220;Grilled chicken, sweet potatoes, salad and a fruit smoothie. A little bit of everything. Pretty textbook and nothing fancy. Maybe some chocolate for desert.&#8221;</p><p><strong>Preferred meal on non-game days:</strong> &#8220;I like to change it up. A big thing is having a different meat - salmon, a steak one night, lamb, pork. I like to mix it up that way. I also like to change the style too. Maybe Mexican one night, an Asian dish the next.&#8221;</p><p><strong>Foods to avoid:</strong> &#8220;Any processed food that you get from the store that&#8217;s like a microwave dinner. If you eat that you feel it the next day.&#8221;</p><p><strong>Cheat meal:</strong> &#8220;I love pancakes. If I were to go to IHOP I&#8217;d get the works. Load up the syrup and some sausage. A greasy, heavy meal. Once in a while it&#8217;s good.&#8221;</p><p><strong>Favorite meal from back home:</strong> &#8220;There&#8217;s this place called Famous Dave&#8217;s BBQ in Colorado. They have the best smoked pork and slow-cooked brisket and all that stuff. I always looked forward to that. It&#8217;s great after a nice, long hike in the morning. You go there for lunch and chow down.&#8221;</p><style>
