I&#8217;m writing regarding the March 14 letter to the editor appearing online and titled &#8220;Citizens&#8217; Climate Lobby has plan that could make &#8216;clean energy&#8217; really pay off for Americans.&#8221;Regardless of your stance on global warming, I don&#8217;t see why people shirk the idea of alternative energy. Free, nearly limitless energy from the sun, wind, seas and biofuel? No more reliance on foreign oil, or environmentally harmful projects like the Keystone XL pipeline? Sign me up.Unfortunately, these technologies are still underdeveloped.Until we start encouraging their use on a national level, the development process will be slow and painful. Sadly, U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey, R-Zionsville, does not support alternative energy and the bright future it promises. Toomey proposed an amendment that would have removed all incentives for alternative energy including wind and tax credits for biofuel.The way I see it, Toomey is simply standing in the way of unpreventable progress. These technologies are the future, and could create a cheaper life for American citizens, and a cleaner planet for generations to come.We need to encourage the development of alternative fuel sources, not hinder them, by providing tax incentives for people and businesses who use them, and providing funding for further research. We need to start making these changes reality.For this reason, I&#8217;ll be voting against Toomey in his bid for re-election in 2016. We need legislators who are looking toward the future, not tied to the past.Ray WalkerTannersville
