<p>JACKSON TWP. &#8212; Supervisors authorized township attorney Jeffery Malak Monday to pursue legal action against American Asphalt.</p><p>American Asphalt, located at 500 Chase Road, and the municipality have faced off many times in the past as residents complained about vibrations from quarry blasting causing damage to home foundations, personal items that are jostled off walls and shelves.</p><p>But this time, falling debris, combined with blasting issues, has resurrected the American Asphalt Citizens Advisory Committee initially created over a decade ago to address blasting-related problems residents had with Bernard Banks Jr., president of American Asphalt.</p><p>Ed Chesnovitch, a resident and a founding member of the American Asphalt Citizens Advisory Committee, alleges a court-ordered natural buffer zone, a strip of land between the active quarry and residential area, was altered.</p><p>The area, Chesnovitch said, used to have trees on it and is currently reduced to scrub-bush.</p><p>&#8220;We have been dealing with this (recent problems) since January and nothing happens,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Everything that goes to Bernie, he ignores.&#8221;</p><p>Chesnovitch is aware John Jay Wilkes Jr., supervisor chairman, had sent Banks mail in regards to the lack of notification provided by American Asphalt before blasting and falling debris.</p><p>Chesnovitch asked the township supervisors to authorize the municipal solicitor to pursue the problems legally.</p><p>In a unanimous vote, Malak was empowered to resolve the issues with American Asphalt.</p><p>In other news, supervisors authorized a commitment letter for a $200,000 LSA grant from the Department of Community and Economic Development.</p><p>The grant was applied for by Jackson, Dallas and Kingston townships for road paving projects, said Al Fox, vice chairman of the board of supervisors.</p><p>Supervisors authorized the township roadmaster to hire seasonal, part-time road department workers as needed.</p><p>The resignation of Merritt Nash, a part-time police officer was accepted.</p><p>The next municipal meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Dec. 5 at the Jackson Township Municipal Building.</p><style>
