Lake-Lehman looking to continue 17-game winning streak in PIAA girls soccer opener

<p>The Wyoming Seminary boys soccer team would have much rather enter the state tournament on a winning streak, and with some momentum, instead of coming off of a 2-1 overtime loss at Scranton Prep in the District 2 2A final on Nov. 2.</p><p>However, if there&#8217;s something positive to take out of the overtime loss, the Blue Knights were in this exact same position heading into districts. Wyoming Seminary lost to Holy Redeemer 3-2 in the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 title game a day before its first districts game, and went on to outscore opponents 15-2 leading up to the 2A final.</p><p>With District 4 champion Lewisburg waiting in the wings, the Blue Knights will look to create some of that same magic they had when they opened the district tournament.</p><p>&#8220;You know, I really hope so,&#8221; Wyoming Seminary midfielder Michael Kim said when asked if the loss could spark the Knights. &#8220;I hope our team takes this loss and uses it to propel us past Lewisburg, the defending state champions.&#8221;</p><p>Suffering a tough loss in the District 2 final, Wyoming Seminary head coach Rev. Charles Carrick&#8217;s post-game message was still a positive one to his players. He wanted the Blue Knights to focus on their accomplishments instead of what could have been.</p><p>&#8220;To hold their heads up,&#8221; Carrick said of his post-game message. &#8220;Three times in a row to the district championships, three times in a row to have a presence in states, that&#8217;s something no Sem soccer team has done. A little part of school history there, so you can walk with heads high.&#8221;</p><p>Carrick liked his team&#8217;s effort in the final, and if he can get that out of the Blue Knights on Tuesday, he likes his team&#8217;s chances.</p><p>&#8220;Anytime you take (Scranton Prep) into overtime, I thought we had a real good showing,&#8221; Carrick said of the districts loss. &#8220;It was a real good game. Some momentary lapses, but, I mean, in soccer if you lose focus for 15, 20, seconds the game can change.</p><p>&#8220;We&#8217;re just going to rest, give them (Thursday off), retool Friday and Monday.&#8221;</p><p>The Blue Knights will face another talented team Tuesday when it travels to Balls Mills Complex in Williamsport to take on Lewisburg.</p><p>The Green Dragons enter the first-round matchup with just one loss, and are coming off of a 1-0 victory over Midd-West in the District 4 2A title game. But as a senior, a road matchup at the defending state champs on Tuesday is the exact challenge Kim wants to face as the Blue Knights start states. Now he has to just wait and see how his fellow Blue Knights responded with the stakes raised.</p><p>&#8220;I would love to play Lewisburg,&#8221; Kim said after the district title game. &#8220;I&#8217;ve been looking forward to playing a team like them ever since I&#8217;ve been playing high school soccer, so this is going to be fun and exciting.&#8221;</p><p><strong>ELSEWHERE AROUND DISTRICT 2</strong></p><p>Dallas is the other team representing the Wyoming Valley Conference in the state tournament.</p><p>After winning the District 2 3A title in a 2-0 fashion over Crestwood on Nov. 2, the Mountaineers will take on District 3 No. 3 seed Daniel Boone at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Lake-Lehman.</p><p>Scranton Prep, which beat Wyoming Seminary in the district final, will take on District 11 champion Salisbury at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Scranton High School.</p><p>District 2 A champion Mt. View will take on District 4 champion Millville at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hughesville.</p><style>
