<p>HAZLETON &#8212; U.S. Rep. Lou Barletta breezed to victory over Mike Marsicano Tuesday, earning his fourth term in Congress.</p><p>In the battle of former Hazleton City mayors, Barletta proved again he is popular across the 11th Congressional District.</p><p>According to unofficial results, with 62 percent of the votes counted in the 11th District, Barletta, R-Hazleton, received 93,840 votes to 51,314 for Democratic challenger Marsicano &#8212; a margin of 65 percent of the vote to 35 percent.</p><p>Barletta thanked the voters of the district and vowed to continue to represent their best interests.</p><p>&#8220;I&#8217;m honored and humbled by the support I received today,&#8221; Barletta, 60, said. &#8220;As a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, I helped save more than $3 billion for the taxpayers.&#8221;</p><p>Barletta said he intends to continue his work to secure the nation&#8217;s borders, stop illegal immigration, preserve national security and create jobs to improve the economy in Pennsylvania and across the country.</p><p>Barletta said he has accomplished much in his first three terms and thanks voters for continuing to support him.</p><p>Barletta said during his first three 2-year terms in Congress, he has accomplished much, starting with the more than $3.1 billion of taxpayers&#8217; money he saved by having federal agencies move into smaller spaces.</p><p>He said he is also proud to have started the SHINE after-school program with state Sen. John Yudichak. The program is for disadvantaged children and Barletta said he also helped save after-school programs nationally by working to secure needed funding.</p><p>Barletta said his efforts helped save volunteer firefighters from the effects of the Affordable Care Act and he helped pass legislation to protect children from opioid addiction.</p><p>Barletta has also become a national voice in dealing with illegal immigration and national security/border security.</p><p>Barletta also serves on the House Homeland Security Committee and House Education and the Workforce Committee, in addition to several sub-committees of all committees he serves on.</p><p>In an interview before the election, Barletta said he has worked across the aisle in a bipartisan way to get things done.</p><p>&#8220;I always will fight for what I believe is right &#8211; even if it is against the Washington establishment,&#8221; he said. &#8220;I&#8217;ll never be afraid to stand up and fight for people.&#8221;</p><p>Barletta also vowed to continue to work to find ways to help veterans and the military.</p><p>A message left on Marsicano&#8217;s cell phone seeking comment was not returned.</p><p>Marsicano, 68, of Hazle Township, said before the election he felt the people of the 11th District were &#8220;fed up&#8221; with Barletta.</p><p>Marsicano&#8217;s campaign included favoring term limits for members of Congress, stating long-term members &#8220;have reached their shelf life in politics.&#8221;</p><p>Marsicano said his campaign was &#8220;self-funded&#8221; and he was hoping to have the opportunity to represent the people of the 11th District.</p><style>
