<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; Several national and international media outlets have landed in Luzerne County seeking to know <a href="https://www.timesleader.com/news/606944/luzerne-county-at-center-of-presidential-election-mystique" target="_blank">why a traditional Democratic county could flip</a> so decidedly in favor of a Republican.</p><p>To date, several news agencies have contacted the Times Leader seeking information about the Nov. 8 presidential election, in which Republican Donald Trump beat Democrat Hillary Clinton.</p><p>The media outlets that have either been in town or say they are coming here to examine Luzerne County&#8217;s role in helping Trump win Pennsylvania include The Wall Street Journal, The Times of London, Le Monde (France), Reuters Video News, RTL German TV, and an Australian documentary film crew.</p><p>&#8220;We are honored that so many media outlets are coming to us for help in trying to explain Donald Trump&#8217;s victory, not only in Luzerne County but in Pennsylvania and the nation,&#8221; Times Leader Executive Editor Tim Farkas said.</p><p>Thomas Baldino, political science professor at Wilkes University, said Finnish, German, Brazilian and French reporters have interviewed him, and he participated in a Skype interview with an Arab broadcasting company based in Lebanon.</p><p>While Republican registration picked up this year, county Democrats retained their registration stronghold for the Nov. 8 election, with 108,054 Democrats, compared with 74,116 Republicans, state statistics show.</p><p>Despite the Democratic registration edge, Trump received 78,303 votes in the county last week, surpassing Clinton&#8217;s 52,092, according to unofficial results.</p><p>That vote difference of 26,211 made up more than 40 percent of Trump&#8217;s unofficial statewide lead of 64,347 over Clinton.</p><style>
