<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; City council will be asked to approve emergency repairs to the channel wall along Solomon Creek.</p><p>The approval was among items discussed at the council&#8217;s work session Tuesday night.</p><p>Bids for work on the Depression-era stone and concrete wall are due at City Hall by 9:30 a.m. Thursday, followed by a public reading at 10 a.m., in plenty of time for the council&#8217;s regularly scheduled meeting at 6 p.m.</p><p>Repairs are estimated to cost $200,000 and the state Department of Community and Economic Development is contributing $50,000.</p><p>Council Chairman Bill Barrett asked whether the city has secured additional funding to pay for the work.</p><p>&#8220;Working on it,&#8221; replied Ted Wampole, city administrator.</p><p>City officials along with state lawmakers and representatives of federal lawmakers visited the channel located in South Wilkes-Barre and saw the condition of the wall, crumbling and pulling away from Brook Street. A collapse could damage buried utilities and a major sewer line to the Wyoming Valley Sanitary Authority in Hanover Township.</p><p>They agreed to work together on a long-term fix to provide flood protection to the neighborhoods and to ensure the operation of businesses that have sprung up around the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza in Wilkes-Barre Township and depend upon the sewer line.</p><p>The council will also be asked to approve:</p><p>&#8226; The relocation of a PPL Electric Utilities pole from the parking lot of the Luzerne County Courthouse to city property.</p><p>&#8226; The disposition of records from the city fire department.</p><p>&#8226; The second and final reading of an ordinance amending rules at the Hollenback Dog Park to require all dogs using it to be spayed and neutered.</p><p>&#8226; A resolution authorizing Mayor Tony George and Controller Darren Snyder to sign all debt-related documents on behalf of the city.</p><style>
