WVC coaches announce 2016 girls volleyball all-star teams

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; Grants totaling $2.3 million were announced Wednesday by the Board of Directors of the AllOne Foundation and AllOne Charities.</p><p>John Moses, chairman of the board, said Wednesday&#8217;s announcement marked the second round of grants. Moses said the organization distributed $1.4 million in grants in the first round earlier this year, for a total of $3.7 million.</p><p>The second round of awards totaled more than $2.3 million to 36 nonprofit organizations serving 13 counties in Northeastern and North Central Pennsylvania. The grant round features a cluster of innovative and collaborative programming focused on significantly impacting access to health services for women and children.</p><p>John Cosgrove, executive director of AllOne, said the grants focus on programs addressing childhood homelessness, food insecurity, childhood trauma and abuse, nutrition and wellness, health screenings, maternal and infant services and childhood mental and behavioral health.</p><p>&#8220;It is great to be here in a room full of givers,&#8221; Moses said to open the meeting. &#8220;I want to quote the late entertainer Danny Thomas, who said, &#8216;There are two kinds of people: givers and takers. The takers sometimes eat better, but the givers always sleep better.&#8217; On behalf of the board of directors, I want to say thank you to all of you who help us execute our mission. To you I say, if you believe, you can achieve.&#8221;</p><p>Moses and Cosgrove said The Wright Center, headquartered in Clarks Summit, was awarded a three-year, $1.35 million grant &#8212; $450,000 per year.</p><p>The grant will be used for a multi-year approach to significantly improve delivery of care to women and children through its Patient Engagement Care Delivery Model.</p><p>According to information provided by AllOne, The Wright Center will dramatically improve outcomes in areas related to cancer screenings, mammography, pediatric immunizations, children&#8217;s dental services, pre-natal care and childhood obesity.</p><p>&#8220;AllOne Foundation &amp; Charities is committed to making a substantial impact by supporting projects and programs that will make a real difference in improving the health and welfare of our neighbors in all corners of our community,&#8221; Moses said. &#8220;This level of investment in our region is truly a great beginning.&#8221;</p><p>Cosgrove said his main focus to make sure the grant dollars get to where they will do the most good in the community.</p><p>Dr. Linda Thomas, president/CEO of the Wright Center, offered comments regarding the importance of the AllOne grant to her organization and its $41 million annual budget. She ended by thanking Moses personally for his work in establishing the AllOne Foundation and Charities organization, calling it the lasting legacy of Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania.</p><p>&#8220;They will never have a big enough award for what you have done,&#8221; Thomas said.</p><p>Moses said AllOne was endowed by Blue Cross of NEPA after it was merged with Highmark Blue Shield. He said $60 million was given to AllOne Foundation, $10 million to AllOne Charities, and $20 million for AllOne Health.</p><style>
