Superintendent: No school during Dallas strike, but graduation on time

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; A Luzerne County judge Tuesday sentenced a Hanover Township man who earlier this year struck a probation officer with his vehicle as an acquaintance attempted to flee from custody in broad daylight.</p><p>Luciano Ramos, 21, of Oxford Street, will spend three to six years in state prison following sentencing by Judge David W. Lupas. The judge accepted Luciano&#8217;s plea to felony attempted aggravated assault at a hearing last month.</p><p>According to the affidavit:</p><p>A frantic Ramos burst into Wilkes-Barre Police Headquarters just before noon May 5, claiming his friend had been jumped in the parking lot of the nearby Penn Place Building. Outside, multiple county probation officers swarmed and surrounded Ramos&#8217; car.</p><p>Deputy Chief Probation Officer John Argento told police they were transporting Alex Scaramastro from Penn Place to a residential facility in Tunkhannock when Scaramastro took off on foot to a waiting vehicle occupied by Ramos.</p><p>Another probation officer, Jim Allardyce, was struck by the vehicle as Ramos attempted to drive away. Allardyce declined medical attention.</p><p>Witnesses said Scaramastro was ordering Ramos to &#8220;go, go, go&#8221; as probation officers instructed Ramos to stop the vehicle. Ramos denied knowing Scaramastro was in jail, but Scaramastro showed investigators a text message he sent to Ramos telling him he was going to run from court.</p><p>Ramos&#8217; sentence will run concurrent to a two- to six-year sentence he&#8217;s currently serving at State Correctional Institution Camp Hill on charges he and two other men robbed and shot another man in the head in 2014, court records show. The victim suffered a fractured skull but survived, according to the affidavit.</p><p>Lupas ordered Ramos to attend anger management counseling.</p><style>
