State awards $2.5 million for redevelopment of historic Altamont Hotel

<p>The turkey dinner is done and the leftovers have been put away.</p><p>Football has been playing seemingly non-stop since daybreak, and you can&#8217;t bear one more forward pass.</p><p>So how do you spend the rest of your Thanksgiving? Surprisingly, the Wyoming Valley offers quite a few choices that don&#8217;t involve crowded shopping centers or bars.</p><p>Perhaps taking in the latest movie might just be the right diversion from the hectic holiday.</p><p>R/C Wilkes-Barre Movies 14, located on Northampton Street in Wilkes-Barre, will start showing movies at 4 p.m. today.</p><p>The theater appears offer something for everyone, with family friendly flicks such as &#8220;Trolls&#8221; and adult comedies such as &#8220;Bad Santa 2&#8221; playing.</p><p>Similarly, Cinemark, located in Moosic, will also be open Thanksgiving, with its first movie starting at 10:15 a.m. Cinemark also has wide variety of films from which to choose.</p><p>If spending the night in a dark theater after a big meal has you worried about falling asleep mid-flick, maybe a night of bowling would be up your alley.</p><p>Kara Hodorowski, marketing and events manager for Chacko&#8217;s Family Bowling Center, said bowling is a popular post-meal Thanksgiving activity.</p><p>&#8220;It is a busier night,&#8221; she said.</p><p>Chacko&#8217;s opens at 6 p.m. Thanksgiving and is offering complimentary shoe rentals.</p><p>Hodorowski said she believes bowling is a popular choice for the holidays since it allows people to spend &#8220;more quality time together.&#8221;</p><p>She said the business does see a lot of families come out after dinner. Bowling offers an alternative to those who don&#8217;t want to go out shopping or want to sit in the movies, she said. Hodorowski said bowling allows people to still engage with one another.</p><p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a nice atmosphere,&#8221; Hodorowski said. &#8220;It kicks off the holiday spirit for the season.&#8221;</p><p>And Thanksgiving isn&#8217;t the only holiday Chacko&#8217;s is open. Hodorowski said for those looking for something to do after opening their Christmas presents can go bowling Christmas night at the lanes.</p><p>Of course, there is always that traditional holiday activity. Spending time with your family. &#8230;</p><p>We will see you at the lanes.</p><style>
