<p>Nick Peck is taking it easy these days.</p><p>And after what the Mocanaqua resident pulled off on Sept. 24, you wouldn&#8217;t blame him.</p><p>Competing in the Campus Chaos Powerlifting Competition at Bloomsburg University, Peck set a world powerlifting record with a bench press of 365 pounds.</p><p>Aside from a world record, Peck also walked away with first place in the Ironman competition (combination bench press and dead lift).</p><p>With one world record down, the 29-year-old has his sights set on another record, this time, in the deadlift. Peck&#8217;s aiming for 570 pounds at his 165-pound weight class. Currently, Peck said his best is around 550 pounds. He won&#8217;t attempt the record lift until May of next year.</p><p>In all, Peck holds one world record, one USAPA national record and seven Pennsylvania state records in various powerlifting events. He&#8217;s rated the No. 1 bencher in his weight class according to the Revolution Powerlifting Syndicate.</p><p>Even with all his accolades and achievements, Peck still carries a chip on his shoulder.</p><p>&#8220;The motivation comes from all the work it took me to get to the competition phase and prep, and not wanting to lose all that hard work,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Also, because of how light I am, just for all the people who used to bust me about being small.&#8221;</p><p>The Nanticoke Area High School graduate was born prematurely weighing just three pounds, 12 ounces. He spent the first two months of his life in the Neo Natal ICU.</p><p>While he was unable to play contact sports growing up due to his size, Peck played baseball and golf in high school and is an accomplished bowler. He gravitated to weightlifting as a teenager.</p><p>&#8220;When I was a freshman, I was probably about 110 pounds soaking wet,&#8221; the 5-foot-6, 160 pounder, said. &#8220;One day one of my buddies asked if I wanted to try lifting, and I was hooked.&#8221;</p><p>Peck is a construction worker by day and works out at the gym five times a week on average. Currently, he&#8217;s hoping to land a sponsorship with a supplement company to further his powerlifting career.</p><p>&#8220;I am so proud of my son, whom I was told at birth might not make it overnight,&#8221; Peck&#8217;s mother, Andrea, said. &#8220;I certainly was concerned about the toll weightlifting might take on his body, but his love of weightlifting outweighs that possibility in his mind.&#8221;</p><p>Peck only participates in &#8220;natural powerlifting events&#8221;, which place strict regulations on what participants can put into their bodies as part of their training. Athletes are often subjected to drug testing after lifts.</p><p>&#8220;They tell me it&#8217;s random, but I&#8217;m always the first one called,&#8221; Peck joked. &#8220;I&#8217;m always happy to go pee in a cup. It&#8217;s fun proving people wrong.&#8221;</p><style>
