Ex-chief charged with stealing from Pennsylvania social club

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (AP) — The district attorney says several reimbursements sought by a central Pennsylvania mayor may be "illegitimate" and warrant further investigation. But Lycoming County District Attorney Eric Linhardt says his office can't investigate Williamsport Mayor Gabe Campana because of Linhardt's longstanding relationship with the mayor. That's why Linhardt has asked the state attorney general to take over the investigation. City council and the city controller asked Linhardt in October to review the reimbursements, which have not been detailed. Campana has said the controller and treasurer approved the reimbursements and that they were proper. Linhardt says his limited review determined the expense reimbursements "may be illegitimate" and need to be thoroughly investigated.
