<p>Alexis Lewis is having a big sophomore season with the Iona College women&#8217;s basketball team.</p><p>The 5-foot-10 forward, a Holy Redeemer grad, leads the 2-3 Gaels in scoring (19.0) and rebounding (9.0) and also has 10 assists, seven steals and five blocks.</p><p>Lewis was named Metro Atlantic Conference Player of the Week on Monday after two standout games in Iona road losses last week. She had 21 points and a career-high 14 rebounds in a 73-68 setback against Navy on Nov. 21 in Annapolis, Md. and a career-high 24 points and 10 rebounds in 39 minutes of action in a 65-55 loss to North Texas last Saturday in Denton, TX.</p><p>&#8220;Alexis is a tremendous asset to our program,&#8221; coach Billi Godsey said. &#8220;She works incredibly hard to improve every day. Her versatility is such an important dynamic in the way we play. She is a tough perimeter play who can take you off the dribble and has deep range beyond the three-point line and this season, we are able to use her in the post to post up smaller defenders.&#8221;</p><p>The coaching staff has challenged Lewis to become a more vocal leader this season.</p><p>&#8220;She has accepted this new challenge with open arms,&#8221; Godsey said. &#8220;Her potential is off the charts and we are excited to grow with her daily.&#8221;</p><p>Iona opens MAAC play with a home game against Manhattan Friday in New Rochelle, N.Y.</p><p><strong>Yori fits right in</strong></p><p>Freshman Mackenzi Yori is the second leading scorer on the 5-0 Scranton women&#8217;s basketball team. The Hazleton Area grad is averaging 10.4 points a game with the balanced Royals squad. She also has 13 rebounds, nine assists and six steals and has hit 8 of 14 (.571) from 3-point range. Yori scored a college career-high 19 points in an 83-23 victory over Cabrini on Nov. 22.</p><p>Sophomore Madison Ashby of Pittston (Scranton Prep) has seen action in four games off the bench for the Royals.</p><p><strong>Good start for Pasone </strong></p><p>Senior Vito Pasone is competing once again at 125 pounds for the No. 23-ranked Appalachian State wrestling team. In his third season as a starter, the Meyers grad, kicked off this year by finishing third in the Hokie Open on Nov. 6 in Blacksburg, Va. He also finished sixth in the Keystone Classic Nov. 21 in Philadelphia. In two dual matches, Pasone is 1-1. He took his match 13-9 in a 25-15 victory over No. 15 Oregon State on Nov. 12, but came up on the short end of an 8-4 decision as the Mountaineers defeated No. 25 North Carolina last Sunday.</p><p><strong>Poray&#8217;s tough on the mat</strong></p><p>Junior Bill Poray continues to be one of the top performers on the Luther wrestling team, one of the top Division III programs in the country. The Coughlin grad is 6-3 thus far this season with three technical fall victories and two major decisions. Poray was 19-11 last year and entered this season with a 33-22 career record. The Norse returns to action in the Wisconsin Open starting Friday in Kenosha, Wis.</p><p><strong>Morgante, Mates named</strong></p><p>Senior right guard Tony Morgante and the rest of the Indiana offensive line was named to the PSAC West second team as a unit after helping the IUP football team put up some big offensive numbers this season. The 6-3, 280-pound Crestwood grad, led the charge as IUP averaged 279.8 rushing yards a game, 209.75 passing yards a game and 489.6 total yards a game. The Crimson Hawks, who averaged 46.25 points a game, finished 10-2. They beat Fairmont State 62-13 in the first round of the NCAA Division II Tournament on Nov. 20 but saw the season end with a 44-23 loss to PSAC West rival California in the second round last Saturday.</p><p><strong>Honor for Del Priore</strong></p><p>Sophomore Issy Del Priore was named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association&#8217;s New England West Region second team on Monday for her play with Tufts this season. The defender started all 22 games for the 19-3 Jumbos and had a defensive save. Del Priore, from Dallas and a Wyoming Seminary grad, also led a defense that held foes to 13 goals with 13 shutouts. Tufts captured the New England Small College Athletic Conference Championship and won three games in the NCAA Division III Tournament before dropping a 1-0 double overtime decision to Messiah in the championship game on Nov. 20.</p><p><strong>Polachek coming up big</strong></p><p>Sophomore Bobby Polachek has four goals and four assists for the SUNY-Fredonia men&#8217;s hockey team and the 6-5, 210-pound sophomore from Kingston (Wyoming Seminary) has two game winners for the 3-3-1 Blue Devils. Polachek, who had seven goals and a team-high 16 assists for 23 points as a freshman, had two goals including the game winner in a 6-2 victory over SUNY-Morrisville on Nov. 19. Earlier, he had two goals and scored the game winner on a power play in a 4-1 triumph over SUNY-Potsdam on Nov. 11.</p><p><strong>Paisley pitching in</strong></p><p>The Bloomsburg men&#8217;s swim team is off to a 5-0 start and red-shirt junior Ryan Paisley is doing a good job for the Huskies. The Hazleton Area grad swam anchor on the winning 200-medley relay team (1:38.78) in a 143-55 victory over Dickinson on Nov. 19. He also finished second in the 50 free (21:54) and swam a leg on the 200-free relay which finished second. On Nov. 12, he helped the 400-medley relay finish first and was second in the 200 freestyle in a 120-81 triumph over Clarion.</p><p>Junior Josh Grzech, a Crestwood grad, is also scoring points for Bloomsburg, mainly in the 50 free and the 100 backstroke.</p><p><strong>Ulichney seeing action</strong></p><p>Junior John Ulichney is playing defense for the Daniel Webster men&#8217;s hockey team which has started the season 1-8. The Coughlin grad, picked up a goal in a 3-2 loss to Franklin Pierce on Nov. 13 and had an assist in a 6-5 victory over Southern Maine on Nov. 11. Ulichney didn&#8217;t score last season but had a goal and nine assists as a freshman.</p><style>
