BRANDON, Fla. (AP) — Authorities in Florida are investigating after a man was shot and killed by a Florida deputy sheriff in the parking lot of a Wal-Mart store. Col. Donna Lusczynski with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office told reporters Friday that the man was armed and refused to drop his weapon when ordered by deputies. The office on Saturday identified the man as 28-year-old Paul Mebane. No other information was provided. Lusczynski said deputies were called to the scene after receiving reports of a suicidal man. When deputies found Mebane in the parking lot, they saw that he had a firearm. Lusczynski said that the deputy who shot Mebane has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation. The shooting occurred near a car with children inside but none were injured.
