<p><strong>Dallas teachers</strong></p><p><strong>dedicated to students</strong></p><p>The teachers and professionals of the Dallas School District, who work to provide the best possible education to our 2,729 children, have been working without a contract for two years.</p><p>We are proud of our schools and proud of the job we do. Our students manifest strong educational values through their academic achievements, and we are very proud of their success. Our great schools keep property values high, attract people to our community and help to support the local economy.</p><p>Most important, Dallas schools empower our children to have bright futures.</p><p>We have been committed to fiscal responsibility during contract negotiations, and we have worked hard to give the school district real cost savings by offering contract concessions. Dallas teachers agreed to a salary-schedule freeze during the previous two contract negotiations. As a result, Dallas teachers have fallen further and further behind in attempting to maintain competitive salaries.</p><p> The best negotiated settlement is one that the parties work out for themselves through discussion, joint problem solving and compromise. For 99 percent of Pennsylvania school districts, this time-tested process works. However, for the first time in Dallas School District history, we have been unable to make it work.</p><p>For decades, we have partnered with parents in assisting our students in their pursuit of academic excellence.</p><p>Recently, Dallas School District was brought to national prominence when the Wycallis Elementary School was awarded the coveted title of a Blue Ribbon School. It is through dedication and diligence that these accomplishments were achieved.</p><p>We will use that same level of dedication and diligence as we continue to engage in serious, meaningful contract negotiations with the school board for the sake of our students and community.</p><p>We hope it leads to a new contract, sooner rather than later.</p><p><strong>Mike Cherinka </strong></p><p>Teacher and Dallas Education Association president</p><style>
