Luzerne County prison inspection released

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; A city man pleaded guilty Friday to charges he fired a gun at a woman following a failed carjacking attempt earlier this year at the Sherman Hills apartment complex.</p><p>Jeremiah Smith, 19, address unknown, entered the plea on charges of aggravated assault, robbery, and carrying a firearm without a license in Luzerne County Court.</p><p>The victim, Jasmine Hutchins, was at the city high rise meeting someone when Smith opened her passenger side door, brandished a handgun and demanded money, according to police. The vehicle was moving slowly when Smith tried to remove the keys from the ignition, police said.</p><p>The victim was able to grab her cell phone and flee toward Coal Street, but Smith gave chase and fired at her, police said. Smith pushed the victim to the ground, then turned and retreated toward the apartment complex. Investigators viewed the incident on video surveillance and apprehended Smith, according to the affidavit.</p><p>Police said one spent shell casing and another unexpended round were found at the scene.</p><p>Smith on Friday also entered a guilty plea on a separate robbery charge for stealing $400 in buy money from a confidential informant during a sting operation in February at the Hilltop Apartments in Edwardsville.</p><p>Judge David W. Lupas accepted Smith&#8217;s pleas on both cases and set sentencing for Feb. 9.</p><style>
