Pulmonologist, critical care physician joins Geisinger Community Medical Center

NANTICOKE — A search warrant after <a href="https://www.timesleader.com/news/local/613896/shooting-in-nanticoke-early-thursday-morning-leaves-one-injured" target="_blank">a shooting on Dec. 8</a> led officers to the discovery of drugs and money inside the victim’s home, according to court documents.

Kenneth Powell, 30, faces charges of manufacture, delivery, or possession with intent, conspiracy to manufacture, deliver, or possess with intent, possession of a controlled substance, and use or possession of drug paraphernalia, according to an inactive criminal docket.

Powell was allegedly shot in the back after an altercation took place at a residence on West Spring Street in the early morning hours on Dec. 8.

According to a criminal complaint, members of the Luzerne County Drug Task Force, along with police from Nanticoke and Newport Township, executed a search warrant for Powell’s residence at 28 East Spring Street at approximately 9:45 a.m. on Dec. 9.

Investigators said Powell and his girlfriend Courtney Padden, 26, were not home at the time the warrant was executed. The residence was secured by officers from the time of the shooting up until the warrant was executed.

Investigators allege that during the search, multiple items of contraband were seized, including large bags of suspected marijuana “well beyond what would be held for personal use.” Also discovered in the house was another large bag of marijuana discovered in a safe in the basement, capsules of a brown substance suspected to be a derivative of marijuana, containers of factory-packaged THC oil, syringes of cannabis liquid, digital scales, packaging materials, containers of a green substance, and a bag of THC candy.

THC is the active ingredient found in marijuana.

A total of $12,950 in cash was also recovered from the residence, which investigators believed was attained through drug sales.

Police said most of the items seized from the residence will be taken by the Pennsylvania State Police Regional Laboratory in Wyoming for analysis.

Padden is also charged with manufacture, delivery, or possession with intent, conspiracy to manufacture, deliver, or possess with intent, possession of a controlled substance, and use or possession of drug paraphernalia, according to an inactive criminal docket.
