Accidental shooting deaths and injuries spike over the holidays

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; A teenager accused of robbing a seventh-grade student at knifepoint in October learned this week that his case is heading to trial.</p><p>Terence Bradley also was arraigned on new charges from a separate alleged robbery involving another juvenile.</p><p>Bradley, 17, appeared before District Judge Thomas Malloy for a preliminary hearing Wednesday. After a brief hearing, Malloy waived Bradley&#8217;s charges of robbery and terroristic threats to higher court.</p><p>The student and the student&#8217;s father were present at the hearing. The father, who asked to remain anonymous, said he was &#8220;very pleased&#8221; that the case would be taken to county court.</p><p>&#8220;(Bradley) is going to have to pay for what he did,&#8221; the father said.</p><p>The alleged victim, a student at Solomon-Plains Memorial Elementary School, was walking home alone at about 2:15 p.m. on Oct. 11 when he was approached by Bradley near Miner Congressional Church on Abbot Street, according to police. Bradley had a four- to five-inch knife and pointed it at the victim, who had an iPhone in plain sight, police said.</p><p>&#8220;Give me that phone, or I am going to kill you,&#8221; Bradley allegedly told the victim, who then handed over the phone.</p><p>Bradley then handed it back to the victim, and instructed him to unlock it. When the victim did, Bradley took the phone and fled.</p><p>At the request of Bradley&#8217;s attorney Brian Corcoran, Malloy agreed to reduce Bradley&#8217;s bail from $100,000 to $75,000. Malloy also ordered that if Bradley is able to make bail, he is to avoid all contact with the alleged victim and not obtain any weapons.</p><p>Bradley is scheduled for a formal arraignment in the Luzerne County Courthouse at 10 a.m. March 10.</p><p><strong>New charges</strong></p><p>Mere hours before his preliminary hearing before Malloy, Bradley was arraigned on other charges stemming from an alleged robbery of another juvenile in October. </p><p>According to the criminal complaint, officers of the Plains Police Department were dispatched to meet police from Wilkes-Barre at Philly&#8217;s Subs on North Washington Street at 3:10 p.m. Oct. 11 concerning two armed robberies.</p><p>The first was the alleged robbery for which Bradley appeared in court Wednesday.</p><p>The second alleged victim told police he was walking with a friend on Abbot Street in Plains Township when they were approached by Bradley. The victim alleged that Bradley demanded his cellphone, and then lifted up his shirt and showed a gun tucked inside his waistband.</p><p>Bradley allegedly threatened to kill the victim if he told anyone about the incident.</p><p>Police say they were able to track the GPS on the first juvenile&#8217;s phone to a residence in the area of East Ann and Maffett streets in Plains Township. Officers spoke with a resident in the area who said Bradley lived on the second floor of an apartment building on Maffett Street, police said.</p><p>Officers then made contact with Bradley, who when questioned, allegedly denied robbing any &#8220;white boys.&#8221; Bradley then said he was at the Alternative Learning Center all day and was dropped off by a school van after school, according to police.</p><p>Officers spoke with a neighbor who had surveillance cameras in the area of Bradley&#8217;s residence. The surveillance showed Bradley walking on East Anne Street wearing clothing that matched the description provided by the alleged victims, police said.</p><p>On Dec. 12, the second juvenile identified Bradley in a photo line-up, police said.</p><p>As a result of the second alleged robbery, Bradley faces two charges of robbery.</p><p>Bradley was arraigned on his new charges before District Judge Joseph Carmody on Wednesday, and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing before District Judge Joseph Spagnuolo at 8:45 a.m. on Jan. 3. Bradley&#8217;s bail for that case was set at $20,000.</p><style>
