Throat-slashing suspects who allegedly left victim for dead to stand trial together

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; Authorities Wednesday charged a second man with homicide in connection to t<a href="https://www.timesleader.com/news/local/583692/man-killed-in-north-sherman-street-shooting-identified" target="_blank">he fatal shooting of Irvando Crooks</a>.</p><p>Keanu Pinnock, 19, was arraigned on charges of criminal homicide, conspiracy to commit criminal homicide, and tampering with evidence Wednesday afternoon before District Judge Thomas F. Malloy in Wilkes-Barre.</p><p>Police had sought Pinnock in connection to Crooks&#8217; homicide. The 23-year-old was found dead on North Sherman Street on Sept. 2. He had been shot in the legs and torso, police said.</p><p>U.S. Marshals last month tracked Pinnock to <a href="https://www.timesleader.com/news/local/616212/u-s-marshals-arrest-wilkes-barre-homicide-suspect-in-florida" target="_blank">a residence in southern Florida and arrested him</a>.</p><p>A second suspect, Tevon Thomas, is also charged in connection to the homicide.</p><p>Witnesses at <a href="https://www.timesleader.com/uncategorized/600884/preliminary-hearing-underway-for-man-charged-with-homicide" target="_blank">Thomas&#8217; preliminary hearing in October</a> described Crooks&#8217; shooting as stemming from a dispute over drug dealings. Detective Charles Jensen testified at the hearing that Thomas and Crooks both were known to deal drugs. Crooks went to a residence on North Sherman Street where Thomas and another suspect by the name of &#8220;Preky,&#8221; and several others were.</p><p>&#8220;Preky&#8221; is an alias that Pinnock uses, according to investigators.</p><p>When Crooks arrived, he allegedly told Thomas he wanted his money and his two guns. Thomas then allegedly pulled out a handgun, chambered a round, pointed it at Crooks and said, &#8220;say I won&#8217;t do it, say I won&#8217;t do it, say I won&#8217;t do it.&#8221;</p><p>After a struggle that took both men to the ground, witnesses allegedly saw Thomas fire one shot and that Pinnock was struck in the face with the gun during the struggle. Witnesses then say Pinnock fired two shots at Crooks from behind, but it is unknown who fired the shot that allegedly killed Crooks.</p><p>According to Pinnock&#8217;s criminal complaint, Thomas fired one round from his firearm, while Pinnock fired two shots at Crooks as he wrestled with Thomas.</p><p>Police, responding to the area for a reported gunshot victim, found Crooks lying in a lawn of a North Sherman Street residence at approximately 7:50 p.m. Sept. 2 . He was rushed into surgery at 11:57 p.m. that night, but was pronounced deceased.</p><p>An autopsy was performed on Crooks on Sept. 6, and the cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds. The manner of death was ruled homicide.</p><p>Jensen also testified that witnesses did not see Crooks with a gun during the altercation.</p><p>Pinnock is scheduled for a preliminary hearing before District Judge Thomas Malloy at 9 a.m. on Jan. 12. Due to the nature of the charges, Pinnock was denied bail and jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility.</p><style>
