SHICKSHINNY &#8212; In a back-and-forth battle of fast-paced, full-court pressure basketball, Lisa Radziak knew just how to slow down the flow.The pint-sized guard popped a couple of big shots, and pretty soon, her Nanticoke Area teammates were running away with the game.Radziak buried two 3-point bombs during a 15-point run in the second quarter that turned a tight battle for Nanticoke Area into an 81-51 victory over stubborn Northwest; keeping the Trojanettes unbeaten in an early-season showdown of Wyoming Valley Conference division leaders at Northwest High School.&#8220;The game was a lot closer than the final score indicated,&#8221; Nanticoke Area coach Alan Yendrzeiwski said. &#8220;We had a hard time keeping in front of their girls early. Northwest, they gave us a couple things to work on in practice.&#8221;Radziak, though, found a way to make things work out for the Trojanettes.The 5-foot-2 junior sharp-shooter followed Riley Klepadlo&#8217;s 3-pointer with two of her own, triggering 15 straight Nanticoke Area points that turned a two-point deficit into a 29-16 Trojanettes&#8217; advantage.&#8220;The 3, that&#8217;s really my thing,&#8221; shrugged Radziak, one of the most accurate outside shooters in the league. &#8220;That&#8217;s my shot. That&#8217;s my game right there.&#8221;Radziak&#8217;s big second quarter, where she scored the first eight of her 17 points, completely changed a game Northwest appeared intent on taking to the wire.The victory improved Nanticoke Area to 9-0 overall and tied with Berwick at 3-0 atop the WVC Division 2, while Northwest suffered its first loss in three league games while remaining in first place in Division 3.The Rangers came out red-hot, forcing Nanticoke Area into foul trouble and causing problems with an aggressive press defense.Reagan Harrison scored 10 points in the first quarter as the Rangers roared out to a 14-12 lead, and Northwest fought back from Nanticoke Area&#8217;s big second-quarter run to pull within nine points by halftime.Harrison&#8217;s 3-pointer early in the second half cut Nanticoke Area&#8217;s lead to 33-27, and Northwest gained a chance to get even closer after coming up with a big rebound.But the Rangers failed to capitalize, and the Trojanettes took off over the final 14 minutes of the second half.Klepadlo scored 12 of her game-high 21 points over the final two quarters, Alyssa Lewis finished with 19 points, Kayla Aufiero battled through a nagging injury to score 13 and Radziak put up her final nine points &#8212; including a third trey &#8212; to end up with 17.&#8220;My team just looked for me,&#8221; Radziak said. &#8220;Drive and kick. My teammates just got me the ball when I was open. It was a little rough in the beginning. We came to play in the end. Being undefeated, we&#8217;re really working hard.&#8221;Crestwood 56,Hazleton Area 47Sarah Hopkins scored six of her 13 points in the fourth quarter and Julia Makowski scored a team-high 19 points as Crestwood defeated Hazleton Area.Crestwood led 38-37 going into the fourth quarter. Sarah Richards and Andrea Shipton scored eight each for the Comets.Kendra Pfeil had 19 and Maddie Mrochko scored 16 for Hazleton Area.Hanover Area 35,Tunkhannock 30Hanover Area outscored Tunkhannock 13-6 in the fourth quarter to pull out the victory.Victoria Benning scored 15 for Hanover Area. Sara Tuzinski and Madison Hooper netted seven apiece.Sam Generotti led Tunkhannock wiith 11.Lake-Lehman 37,GAR 32Madison Borum scored four of her 10 points in the fourth quarter as Lake-Lehman squeezed past GAR.Savannah Purdy also had 10 for the Black Knights, who led 25-23 going into the final eight minutes.Alexis Whiting had 12 points and Khira Cook added eight for GAR.Wyo. Valley West 72,Coughlin 28Gabby Smicherko scored 15 points as the Spartans had four girls score in double figures in their victory over Coughlin.Toni Amato added 12 for Valley West, hitting four 3-pointers in the Spartans&#8217; 25-point second quarter. Andi Blaski had 11 and Erin Gibbons tossed in 10.Claire Curtis and Emily Cicon scored eight each for Coughlin.Pittston Area 49,Dallas 41Kayleigh Walker scored 24 points and Leah Hodick added 15 to pace Pittston Area past Dallas.Sarah Lojewski had 13 for Dallas. Maddie Kelley added 10.Holy Redeemer 58,Meyers 39Holy Redeemer was paced by Samantha Raja, who scored a game-high 17 points including a pair of 3-pointers. Both Irelyn Jamuuzzi and Talia Kogierowski each scored eight points in the win.Bella Skaff led Meyers in scoring with 11 points.Wyoming Area 48,Wyoming Seminary 38Katie Wolfgang scored a game-high 20 points to lead Wyoming Area to a road win at Wyoming Seminary.
