Local Sports: Dallas swim teams win big at Stroudsburg Winter Swim Classic

<p>LUZERNE &#8212; Kernel Moonie&#8217;s Bootleg Kettle Corn provides its customers not just a sweet or savory treat, but also fun ideas for birthdays, weddings and other special occasions.</p><p>Owner Justin Taylor was especially excited to introduce a navy blue and white sweet popcorn for the Penn State fans for the Rose Bowl.</p><p>For Steelers fans, the business offers a black and yellow variety, to honor the AFC team of which he is a fan.</p><p>&#8220;For the Super Bowl, I&#8217;m going to also add the colors of another team,&#8221; he said, smiling. &#8220;You know, whoever plays the Steelers.&#8221;</p><p>Taylor and his fiance, Marguerite Pugh, originally sold kettle corn at various fairs and festivals.</p><p>&#8220;But we only had so much space,&#8221; said Taylor, &#8220;and people wanted other flavors.&#8221;</p><p>This year, the two are inviting their customers, old and new, to celebrate National Popcorn Day on Jan. 19.</p><p>The day is dedicated to popcorn lovers across the country, encouraging them to try a new flavor or to gift a friend with the treat.</p><p>Although both call Larksville home, they also love their business spot on the main street of Luzerne.</p><p>&#8220;We&#8217;re members of the Luzerne Merchants Association,&#8221; said Taylor. &#8220;And borough hosts great events for holidays and special occasions.&#8221;</p><p>Wayne Frick, who helps out at the business, also enjoys the popcorn that he often makes and carefully places on shelves.</p><p>Although many customers especially enjoy more savory flavors such as dill pickle or parmigiana garlic, Frick goes for sweet flavors such as caramel and banana.</p><p>&#8220;Many of our customers take it home to watch a movie,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Some people even buy large batches for parties.&#8221;</p><p>Taylor, who also does the morning show at Froggy 101, said the shop follows a trend in gourmet snacking and gift giving, that brings unique colors and flavors to customers.</p><p>&#8220;Popcorn is somewhat like a blank slate,&#8221; he said. &#8220;You can add your own colors and flavors to it and even be very creative with what you name it.&#8221;</p><p>While the owners can be found selling their kettle corn throughout the area, Taylor and Pugh especially enjoy having a presence at Hillside Farms, where there&#8217;s a strong sense of environmental responsibility, sustainability and family.</p><p>The product is also a returning favorite at area festivals including the Plymouth Kielbasa Festival and the Edwardsville Pierogi Festival, bringing the business to the community with a focus on fun and flavor.</p><p>&#8220;Usually when people approach us at a festival, they identify us by smell,&#8221; said Pugh. &#8220;The get to us and say, &#8216;I smelled you way down the street.&#8217;&#8221;</p><p>Taylor is looking forward to creating new flavors and continuing to be a part of the borough landscape.</p><p>&#8220;One of our next flavors is crab,&#8221; he said. &#8220;I think that is going to be a popular one.&#8221;</p><style>
