CINCINNATI (AP) — A prosecutor is removing himself from the retrial of a white former University of Cincinnati police officer charged with murder for shooting an unarmed black motorist during a traffic stop. Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters (DEE'-turs) announced Friday that a new prosecution team will take over the case. Ray Tensing's retrial is set for May 25. A jury deadlocked in November at the first trial. Deters says he and his two assistant prosecutors in the first trial will instead focus on the resentencing trial of a convicted killer. He says he's assigning two new prosecutors who will "bring a fresh set of eyes" to the police shooting case. Tensing had testified he feared for his life. He was fired after the shooting. A pretrial hearing is scheduled for Jan. 23.
