DURYEA - The January meeting of the Frances Dorrance Chapter of the Society for Pennsylvania Archaeology will feature a presentation by Mark Dziak.Dziak has written several books on local history and archaeology and a trip to Egypt and tours of the ancient wonders of the Egyptian dynasties has inspired this talk.He will try to compare the ancient history of our native population and the achievements of Egypt with their relatively simple existence. What was happening on the banks of the Susquehanna while tremendous building of structures and government was occurring on the banks of the Nile? Why were these two sets of people so different in their approaches to life? What factors led to the major difference in these two contemporary societies? Was it resource availability or was it just a matter of shear luck?These kinds of questions will be among the thoughts he will be exploring. Anyone who ever wondered why some things happen in one place but not in another are invited to attend and participate.The meeting will be held 7 to 9 p.m. Jan. 31 at the Duryea municipal building, 315 Main St. The meeting is open to the public and the presentation is free of charge.
