The definition of parity in the dictionary is the state or condition of being equal.That defines the District 2 Duals Tournament to a T.The Wyoming Valley Conference is a prime example of how close the competition in each league is. In Division 1 (Class 3A), the top three teams, Hazleton Area, Dallas and Tunkhannock, all tied for a share of the division title.In Division 2 (Class 2A), Meyers claimed the divisional crown for the fourth straight season, but it wasn&#8217;t easy as the Mohawks won three of their five divisional duals thanks to strong late finishes, with two of them being decided by a total of three points.Hanover Area has had the toughest luck of any Class 2A team, dropping duals to Meyers and Lake-Lehman by one point each. But the Hawkeyes are the only team to defeat Lackawanna League 2A No. 1 seed Honesdale, winning by three points and dealing the Hornets their only loss to a Class 2A team this season. Lake-Lehman meanwhile, is the defending duals champion in 2A.Over in the Lackawanna League, No. 1 Class 3A seed Delaware Valley defeated Scranton by just three points for the Division 1 championship. In Class 2A, the LL top seed Honesdale defeated second seed Western Wayne by two points and No. 3 seed Valley View by just a point.Action begins tonight at 5:30 at four locations &#8211; Meyers and Honesdale in Class 2A, and Hazleton Area and Delaware Valley in 3A. Each site will host four duals, two quarterfinals, a semifinal and a consolation match. All four semifinal winners advance to the finals, which will be on Saturday at Pittston Area at 1:30 p.m. Every team that wins once today will also move on to the high school in Yatesville trying to wrestleback to take third with the first consolation round starting at 9 a.m.The district champs advance to the first round of the PIAA Team Championships on Thursday, Feb. 9 at Hershey&#8217;s Giant Center. The 2A titlist squares off against the District 10 champ, while the 3A winner takes on the No. 2 seed from District 3.Here&#8217;s a closer at all four locations for today&#8217;s event:CLASS 3AAt Hazleton AreaA very interesting foursome to say the least.The Cougars have unfinished business after being upset by Tunkhannock three weeks ago and are looking to avenge; if things go their way the opportunity will be there.Hazleton Area, the top seed from the WVC, starts off against the Lackawanna League No. 4 seed Abington Heights in what should be a win for the Cougars.Tunkhannock, the defending tournament champion, opens with Scranton in a rematch of last year&#8217;s final. The Tigers and Knights met in December with Scranton winning by nine points, but Tunkhannock forfeited two weights. Now at full strength, this should be a very competitive quarterfinal.The last time Hazleton Area and Scranton squared off was in last year&#8217;s duals semis with Scranton winning easily.At Delaware ValleyThere are no easy matchups throughout the entire district, and having to travel all the way to Milford to a hostile environment at Delaware Valley, this could be the hardest for all four teams to get through.Delaware Valley grabbed the top seed from the Lackawanna League by dethroning Scranton as Division 1 champs. The Warriors will face WVC No. 4 seed Coughlin in the quarters in the first matchup between the two teams since 2014. The teams have had one common opponent this season in Wallenpaupack. DelVal defeated &#8216;paupack 63-6, while Coughlin beat the Buckhorns 37-22.In the other quarterfinal match in Milford, WVC No. 2 seed Dallas faces LL No. 3 seed West Scranton in a rematch of a dual from 11 days ago in the finals of Berwick&#8217;s dual tournament. The Invaders won 38-33. West&#8217;s Bubba Novak defeated the Mountaineers&#8217; Alec Sampson 11-10 in a bout that ultimately decided the outcome. Novak and Sampson are two of the top 152-pounders in the district.Dallas and DelVal last met in the tournament in 2016 with the Warriors winning the quarterfinal dual by 20 points.CLASS 2AAt MeyersThe Mohawks are the only No. 1 seed this year that was also in the same position as a host in 2016, and the road to the finals could be very similar. That&#8217;s why Meyers is hoping for different results this time around.The team faces Montrose for the second straight season in the opening round. But last year after beating the Meteors, Meyers fell to rival Hanover Area in the semifinals in the last bout of the night.Once again, the Hawkeyes are in the same pod as the No. 3 WVC seed faces Western Wayne, the No. 2 seed from Lackawanna with aspirations of pulling off the same feat as a year ago.Hanover Area last faced the Wildcats two years ago in the first round of the tournament and Western Wayne won big. But they have been familiar with each other over the last few years. Earlier this season, both teams were in the Tunkhannock tournament with the Hawkeyes placing fourth and the Wildcats fifth. They have also had two common opponents with both defeating Scranton Prep, while Hanover Area defeated Honesdale and Western Wayne lost to the Hornets.Pacing the Hawkeyes is senior Jeff Bennett, who just picked up career win No. 100 last weekend at the Coal Cracker Tournament.At HonesdaleIf there&#8217;s one site that could have several surprises, this one is it.The host Hornets have moved to Class 2A this season and are already seeing the benefits. Last week, they won the LL Division 2 title by stopping Western Wayne&#8217;s exceptional winning streak that lasted 52 matches, seven seasons and more than eight years.Honesdale starts with a match against another newcomer to Class 2A in the WVC No. 4 seed Berwick, which is making its first district duals appearance since 2011 in Class 3A. The Hornets and Bulldogs met earlier this season at Berwick&#8217;s duals tournament. The Hornets romped to victory there, but last season, Berwick defeated the team in the same event. Most of the wrestlers from both squads last year are still on both teams&#8217; rosters.The other opening dual features WVC No. 2 seed and returning event champion Lake-Lehman against Lackawanna&#8217;s No. 3 Valley View. This is a rematch from last year&#8217;s quarterfinal match won by the Black Knights, who have the majority of those wrestlers back.In an example of how close all four of these teams are, Honesdale defeated Valley View last week by just one point. The Hornets needed pins in the last three bouts to win and did just that. The Black Knights defeated the Bulldogs by nine points in their dual, but Lehman won the last three bouts for that victory.Lehman and Honesdale haven&#8217;t wrestled in a dual in at least the last nine seasons.<style>
