Wilkes-Barre group’s goal: Provide uniforms for Special Olympics athletes

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; With little discussion of agenda items, city council kept its work session to under 10 minutes Tuesday night.</p><p>The session served as a preview of what to expect at Thursday night&#8217;s regularly scheduled public meeting.</p><p>On the agenda for the meeting are three appointments to the Human Relations Commission that will hear complaints filed in response to alleged violations of the anti-discrimination ordinance passed last year. The commission will have a minimum of seven members and a maximum of 15.</p><p>Up for appointment are:</p><p>&#8226; Arthur Breese of Hazle Street.</p><p>&#8226; Dale &#8220;Dee&#8221; Culp, Charles Street.</p><p>&#8226; Cody Robinholt, Carey Avenue.</p><p>Mayor Tony George submitted for approval three people to fill seats on the Zoning Hearing Board:</p><p>&#8226; Edward DeMichele (reappointment).</p><p>&#8226; Hayden White (reappointment).</p><p>&#8226; Leon Schuster (appointment).</p><p>Other agenda items are:</p><p>&#8226; Approval of the sale of a city lot on Darling Street to Jonathon Sordoni for $9,500.</p><p>&#8226; Support of the statewide &#8220;Ban the Box&#8221; initiative that asks employers to remove from hiring applications a check box to indicate whether a job candidate has a criminal record. The initiative does not prevent employers from ever asking about a job candidate&#8217;s criminal history. Instead it aims to postpone the inquiry until later on in the hiring process.</p><p>&#8226; The first of two required readings to add &#8220;Quality of Life Regulations&#8221; to the Code of Ordinances.</p><p>&#8226; The first of two required readings of an ordinance to grant residential parking permits for the westerly side of Stanley Street between Riverside Drive and Terrace Street.</p><p>&#8226; The second of two required readings of an ordinance to amend the Community Development Block Grant budget for years 2010 through 2016.</p><style>
