Voters await economic revival in a part of pro-Trump America

<p>Daniel Yard was looking forward to seeing an actor portray Martin Luther King Jr. on Friday in a presentation of &#8220;I Have a Dream,&#8221; a dramatization of the civil right leader&#8217;s life.</p><p>Yard, 15, who attended the event with about 40 other youngsters of the Wyoming Valley Home School Group, said he had read &#8220;a bunch of books,&#8221; about King, but looked forward to learning more about King and the civil rights movement during the dramatic presentation.</p><p>The presentation was part of the Young People&#8217;s Theater Series at the F.M. Kirby Center, made possible by the Friends of the Luzerne Foundation.</p><p>Laura Menn, marketing and public relations coordinator at the Kirby Center, said this year&#8217;s series provides a variety of topics, from the life of King to the science of magic to the fundamentals of electrical energy.</p><p>Friday&#8217;s event was geared toward those from third grade to adults.</p><p>Menn said although a two-hour, weather-related delay for most area school districts meant that many schools that had planned to attend could not, more than 100 students attended from home school groups, the Keystone Job Corps and other organizations in the area.</p><p>Holly Rishco, from Reaching Beyond Limits, a day program based in Edwardsville, said the group brought 16 children to the event.</p><p>&#8220;I think this is a fabulous opportunity to open up the Kirby to benefit the community,&#8221; she said.</p><p>Day program participant James Smith said he was excited to come to the theater and experience something new.</p><p>&#8220;Coming to the theater is a totally new experience for him,&#8221; said a staff member.</p><p>Shannon Bailey, also a day program participant, said she was very happy to be able to attend the event and spend time with her friends.</p><p>Reaching Beyond Limits staffer Clarissa Davis said program participants enjoy getting out, especially in the winter.</p><p>&#8220;In the summer, we take walks and get to be really active,&#8221; she said. &#8220;An event like this brings more energy into the program.&#8221;</p><p>Nichole Reisinger, of Kingston and a parent and organizer of the Wyoming Valley Homeschool Group, said students enjoyed a day without textbooks and assignments.</p><p>Still Reisinger said parents looked forward to their children learning in a fun environment.</p><p>&#8220;They really enjoy spending time with their friends,&#8221; she said.</p><p>Menn said the next event in the series is &#8220;Bill Blagg&#8217;s Science of Magic,&#8221; to be held on Feb. 13.</p><style>
