Pakistan court bans Valentine's Day in capital

<p>DURYEA &#8212; Police are warning residents of a scam reported by several victims in Duryea and the surrounding area.</p><p>Officers at the Duryea Police Department have received multiple complaints from residents and people outside of the borough that have reported receiving calls that a relative is in jail or in police custody.</p><p>Police said the caller then usually tells the victims and they need to send either money, gift cards, or something to the lawyer or to the victim of the incident to get them out of custody.</p><p>Victims have reported the suspects are using local police departments and departments out of the area when reporting the relative is in custody, according to police. The suspects reportedly will not give any information or details when pressed, and express they will explain everything at a later time.</p><p>Police said one victim from Duryea purchased $3,000 in gift cards as advised by the caller, and was then asked to provide the numbers for each card over the phone.</p><p>Police would like to remind residents to not send any money, gift cards, or anything to anyone they do not know.</p><p>Police also said the scam appears to be targeting the elderly.</p><style>
